Crooked I – “Cocaine Is A Helluva Drug”

12.28.11 Written by Beware

Songs like “Cocaine Is A Helluva Drug” are why I’ve been claiming Crooked as one of my favorite rappers for the past seven years. Obviously, everyone enjoys hearing the Slaughterhouse member incinerate microphones with his lyrical prowess. Hell, verse for verse, even Royce considers him the best out of the group. Slaughterhouse’s Hot 97 Freestyle Session With Funkmaster Flex

12.21.11 Written by Raj

I still vividly remember when Slaughterhouse came on to Green Lantern’s radio show and for 20 minutes proceeded to completely annihilate Hov’s “D.O.A.” record until there was nothing left but the occasional dust particle here and there. Truth be told, I still go back and play that jawn on occasion. And only two years later Funkmaster Flex got to host his own demolition site and give the four-headed monster the keys to the wrecking ball and bulldozer. Read the rest of this entry »

Crooked I – “Fast Car (Freestyle)”

08.16.11 Written by Gotty™

Crooked I’s found a good groove with guitar-driven tracks. First, Long Beach’s finest tore down Wayne’s “How To Love” and now he dusts off folk favorite Tracy Chapman’s most famous tune to spin autobiographical bars regarding his come-up. Read the rest of this entry »

Crooked I Shows Lil Wayne “How To Thug”

06.14.11 Written by Beware

For most Top 40 rap singles, you can expect the respective instrumentals will be claiming rape within months of release. However, only the brave seem to be daring enough to give Lil Wayne’s bare-bones, acoustic-guitar-laden single a stab. That said, Crooked I putting himself up to the task sounds about right. The iPod Shuffle – Crooked I’s “Boom Boom Clap”

06.03.11 Written by Beware

Back before Crook took fans on the Hip-Hop Weekly trip back in 2007 and Slaughterhouse was even thought of, the Jim-Gettum-produced “Boom Boom Clap” was supposed to be the former Death Row inmate’s breakout single. To test the waters, it was placed upon Crooked’s second volume of his highly-acclaimed Young B.O.S.S. mixtape series Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “Move On (Remix)”

05.28.11 Written by Beware

My, how things change. About this time two years ago, the then-recently-formed four-headed monster known as Slaughterhouse was going on a rampage, destroying anything they touched. One victim they kept in-house was Joey and Joell’s candid collabo from Ortiz’ Free Agent mixtape, “Move On,” which was reworked to add in the additional two butchers. Read the rest of this entry »

Sir Aah Feat. Crooked I & Royce the 5’9″ – “I Wonder If The Lord Knows” Video

05.28.11 Written by Raj

Sir Aah’s been on my radar for a minute. He’s cooked up joints with the likes of Nipsey Hussle, the Clipse and, most notably, all four members of Slaughterhouse. But it’s a double-edged sword, and with all these A-List features, he’s taken some criticism, over the years, mainly for not being able to keep his raps up to their level. But “I Wonder if the Lord Knows” isn’t cast from the same mold. Read the rest of this entry »

“That New West Sh!t” – Review Of Horse Shoe G.A.N.G.’s Firing Squad

04.22.11 Written by Patrick M.

Best known as Crooked I’s posse, the Horse Shoe G.A.N.G. attempts to break through on their own merits with Firing Squad. Unlike their previous effort, Firing Squad does not co-bill Crooked, emphasizing the focus on creating a new set of West Coast stars. While the collective rhyming efforts of G.A.N.G. members  Demitrius Capone, Julius Luciano, Kenny Siegel, and Andrew “Dice” Dinero are noteworthy, the album lacks the breakthrough single necessary to put this collective into the ears of even the dedicated Hip-Hop fan. Crooked I – “#Okbye”

02.18.11 Written by Beware

You created a hot hashtag, Crooked I created a hot song. For the first leak from Planet C.O.B Vol. 2, “#Okbye” finds the new Shady Records sharpshooter flipping this oft-used trending topic into another one of his many online promo campaigns. Come to think of it, Crook’s guitar-laden gangsta’s sermon has had proper promo behind it for months, Read the rest of this entry »

Crooked I Feat. Sally Anthony – “Villain” Video

12.22.10 Written by Raj

Judging from most of Crooked I’s rhymes, you wouldn’t be able to guess he’s anything more than a connoisseur of the finest bitches and a drinker of only the most premium malt liquor. But upon a quick dig through outlets like Twitter, it’s very obvious that Mr. Pigface Weapon Waist does have a bit more of a socially conscious side than most think. “Villain” is a song that proves just that, as its content deals with the overcoming of poverty, the crime life, and government injustices.
