Hypnotic Brass Ensemble Tackles Outkast’s “SpottieOttieDopaliscious”

01.31.12 Written by TC

Zamn!

Anyone who’s ever had the right amount of elixir flowing through the veins, coupled with visions of someone they deem to be highly attractive knows the power of “SpottieOttieDopaliscious.” Apparently the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble knows it all to well, as they have created their own interpretation of the situation. Mike Posner – “The Scientist” (Coldplay Cover)

05.29.11 Written by Beware

Ah, we were wondering where Mike Posner went. Since he couldn’t stay touring forever, last year’s breakout singer/songwriter returns to his mixtape roots by reworking another song from his iPod. This go round, instead of covering The Fray or ELO, the Southfield, MI songwriter sets the standards a bit higher by tackling Coldplay’s “The Scientist”. Read the rest of this entry »

Karmin Covers Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now”

04.14.11 Written by Gotty™

Earlier, our friends at The Urban Daily shared a great time-waster titled “White Girls Covering Chris Brown’s “Look At Me Now” and, of course, I watched because covers are when a song really starts gaining relevance and appeal. My vote for best of the batch goes to young Karmin, who apparently does quite a few covers. Read the rest of this entry »

John Legend – “Rolling In The Deep (Adele Cover)”

03.25.11 Written by Ben Lampin

Covering “Rolling In The Deep” is a hell of a statement by any artist. It creates a natural comparison between Adele’s fiery original, one of the best songs of the year so far, and whatever effort that artist can manage to muster. Given Adele’s powerful voice, dynamic range, and the amount of natural, free-flowing emotion she brings to the table, it’s unlikely that anyone will be able to hold their own. J Dilla’s “Donuts” Performed By Stray Phrases

02.07.11 Written by Raj

In some way, shape, or form J Dilla has been involved with the creation of most of my favorite music. Some of these names should ring a bell.

The Pharcyde. A Tribe Called Quest. Busta Rhymes. De La Soul. The Roots. Mos Def. Talib Kweli. Ghostface Killah.

And that’s just scratching the surface of his resumé. Read the rest of this entry »

Neon Indian – “Children Of The Revolution”

12.14.10 Written by Beware

The genre loosely referred to as Indie Rock is not something I keep up with, but rather something I let come to me. That said, Neon Indian’s actual band name might ring more bells than the organic dance outfit’s actual music, but if their catastrophic cover T. Rex’s “Children Of The Revolution” is any indicator of how reckless their sound is, my horizons might have to be broadened. Read the rest of this entry »

The Fray Covers “Heartless”

08.15.09 Written by Gotty™

Say what you will about 808′s…, but you know a sign that you’ve created something worthwhile? When it gets covered endless & reinterpreted countless times, both inside & outside the original genre. Yes, that will be one of the lasting monuments of the album. And since the ghost of Kanye Omari posted it, we’ll assume he/they approve, as we do.
