Killa Kyelon – Candy Paint & Texas Plates 2 Mixtape

09.01.11 Written by Raj

After putting out several solid previews, Killa Kyleon’s newest mixtape Candy Paint and Texas Plates 2 has finally dropped. In addition to featuring production by the likes of Tha Bizness, Lex Luger, and most notably Big K.R.I.T., the record is the latest of the Lone Star State rapper’s projects that continue to show his improvement as an emcee. Great Drake Videos He Didn’t Even Make

09.21.10 Written by TC

I recently read that Drake is a socially awkward, lip-puckering roody-poo whose best moments happen when he’s off camera. The fact that his videos—from So Far Gone to Thank Me Later—have been met with heavily mixed reviews may validate that person’s opinion just a smidget. But as for the music, several remix projects dedicated to his debut alone give Drizzy immunity from the occasional ribbing. Read the rest of this entry »

DJ Drama x Cookin Soul – History In The Making

08.03.10 Written by TC

Mr. Thanksgiving and the producers who do it better the 2nd time, Cookin Soul, come through with another freebie on this glorious Tuesday to make your iPod smile. When is the last time you heard a compilation mixtape that was worthy of constant spins? More than likely it was a CS presentation. And with Drama giving his Gangsta Grillz stamp, it seems like they could be invincible. Read the rest of this entry »

Cookin Soul & Don Cannon Present Drake – Thank Us Later

06.19.10 Written by TC

Is the fact a brand spankin’ new album is getting remixed an indicator of it being a cult classic? Will Thank Me Later reach the ridiculous redux proportions of The Black Album and God’s Son? If so, Cookin Soul and Don Cannon have gotten the ball rolling with Thank Us Later. Alongside French maestro Spike Miller and electronic Spanish producer VibaSound, this worldly union attempts to revolutionize the art of remixing without having the main acapellas to Drake’s work. Nipsey Hussle – “The Hussle” Video

03.09.10 Written by Beware

I’m not 100% familiar with 100% of Hussle’s material, but I’d say it’s a safe bet that this DanTheMan-handled RadioPlanet Quikvid portrays Neighborhood Nip exactly the way he portrays himself. A guy who’s laid back with an attitude when necessary. One who appears overly aged and apathetic alike from having seen more in his 20-odd years than most see in their entire lives.

At 1:28, this may as well be Nipsey’s elevator pitch.

An extremely dope, Cookin-Soul-produced elevator pitch, at that.

Donny Goines – The Breakfast Club

05.19.09 Written by TC

It’s funny how the music universe aligns its stars to manifest various degrees of separation. Just this morning, I got my day started to Big Pun’s “Laughing At You” which samples 80′s rock band Simple Mind’s “Don’t You (Forget About Me). The composition was the theme song to the movie The Breakfast Club, whose chorus told me not to forget about Donny Goines brand new album today.

Picking up right where his debut Minute To Midnight left off, Donny recruits nearly half of industry to cook up the eggs and bacon for The Breakfast Club. Proceed for the flapjacks. Read the rest of this entry »

DJ Drama & Cookin’ Soul – The Notorious B.I.G. Tribute Mixtape

03.09.09 Written by TC

Thanks in part to the Notorious movie, Hip-Hop has been fortunate to undergo a Biggie resurrection of sorts on the World Wide Web. The forgotten videos, unreleased music, the B.I.G. comadarie — all have been an invigorating compliment to a legend who basically batted 1.000 in his short but storied career. On this twelfth anniversary of his tragic assassination, some of rap’s active players such as Jean Grae, Emilio Rojas, Uncle Murda and Styles P. have linked up with DJ Drama and red-hot production trio Cookin Soul to revisit a handful of those Chris Wallace classics.

It’s unbelievable. After all this time, Frank White is “Still Notorious…” Read the rest of this entry »
