Loosies: Brandy & Monica Resume Their Squabble, Lady Gaga Gets Bloody & “Boo Thang” Isn’t Just For Ladies Anymore

02.08.12 Written by TC

At the tail end of the 1990s, Brandy and Monica recorded one of the most popular catfights in history — the multi-platinum “The Boy Is Mine.” Now that they’re older, wiser and done fighting over Mekhi Phifer, they’ve decided to pick up where they left off and update the references of voicemails to Facebook on “It All Belongs To Me.” Read the rest of this entry »

Rick Ross – Ashes To Ashes

12.24.10 Written by TC

First Rick Ross looked to kill his enemies with The Albert Anastasia EP. Then he sought to murder his competition with Teflon Don. Now he’s overseeing the immolation of the opposition on Ashes To Ashes. Oops, did I just say the same thing three different ways? Well, welcome to The Ricky Rozay Show! It’s nothing but heaps of materialism masked with a flow that can do the backstroke in a tidal wave. Read the rest of this entry »

Clinton Sparks Feat. Mike Posner & Big Sean – “Ambiguous Girl” Video

11.19.10 Written by Beware

My better half and I share a relationship I cherish more than anything else in this world. Like Loso says, my personal small waist with a pretty face makes me better on the daily and has for damn near a decade. That said, I’m pretty sure my days in dealing with the ambiguous girls Clinton Sparks, Big Sean and Mikey Posner are referring to in the latest visual from Finally Famous Vol. 3 are gone for good. Big Sean x Don Cannon – Finally Famous Vol. 3

08.31.10 Written by TC

Finally. The word best describes the universal feeling surrounding Big Sean’s latest project. It may be the third time but this one could very well the beginning for G.O.O.D. Music’s lil’ big head. With no album date confirmed as of yet, Sean switches focus to crowd surfing with Don Cannon, remixing fat raps with Chip & $pitta and straight boooshittin’ through a tape full of energy, star power and materialistic madness. TSS Presents Consequence’s Movies On Demand: Menu Guide

08.16.10 Written by TC

Spoiler alert: Consequence’s Movies On Demand will go down as one of the best mixtapes of 2010. Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for the novice rapper to go over-the-top in the mixtapes for that undeniable buzz but the more established rhymeslayers generally resort to just rapping over popular beats and calling it a day. Well, apparently someone failed to tell Consequence that the vets weren’t supposed to care as much because his recent project G.O.O.D. Music, Nah Right & Universal Motown Present Consequence Movies On Demand sports material that most record labels couldn’t laud on their artist’s retail albums. Read the rest of this entry »

The tape that told you it would be there in five minutes, only to arrive five months later is finally here to rock, rap and rollout in disorderly fashion. Donnis basks in the glory as the guest of honor and Clinton Sparks, DJ Ill Will & Rockstar all share hosting duties for Fashionably Late: The Mixtape. Donnis Is Fashionably Late With His New EP & Mixtape

05.21.10 Written by K1NG

After scoring big with “Gone,” Donnis and producer Needlz hook up for yet another club banger with the infectious Rihanna-influenced “Yup.” Needlz provides a beat with enough bounce to make even the staunchest wallflower get on the dance floor, mixing in elements of “Hard” on the chorus as to assure a hit. Donnis doesn’t disappoint either as his pen game seems to have seriously stepped up since his last tape. Lyrically, he weaves through the rambunctious drums & synths with witty line after witty line proving that he’s got what it takes to be more than just another XXL freshman who drops out sophomore year. G.O.O.D. Music, Nah Right & Universal Motown Present Consequence – Movies On Demand

Conceptually, this looks way too elaborate to be given away for free, but Dexter is a trooper and he isn’t so far removed that he doesn’t understand you have to give a little to get a lot in today’s game. Pay-per-view or not, tell the people it’s showtime as Cons The Don and premium channel Nah Right link up with the big starz including Rick Ross, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch and Kanye West’s entire G.O.O.D. Clinton Sparks & NMC Present Chester French – Jacque Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance

04.08.09 Written by MZ

Outside of “What A World,” I don’t have too much knowledge on Chester French. I’ve seen the name, but what I thought was a singular artist is actually a duo. Nevertheless, two things made me give this tape more than a passing glance: Clinton Sparks, and the featured guests. But I’ll let them talk about them.

“Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance” is a chronicle of the past six years of our lives. It tells our story, from the gymnasiums of Harvard to the hills of Hollywood. Unlike “Love the Future,” which we’ve written, arranged, performed, produced, and engineered by ourselves, “Jacques Jams” features a collection of new, original music that we created in the hills of Massachusetts and then invited some of our favorite artists to grace.

As young artists, we couldn’t be more grateful for this opporunity to collaborate with legends like Jermaine Dupri, Diddy, Pharrell, Pusha, Talib Kweli, Bun B., The Mad Rapper, Kardinal Offishall, N.O.R.E, and Jadakiss as well as younger friends like Janelle Monae, Cassie, Wale, Solange, Lady Gaga, and Mickey Factz. All of these fantastic artists have been more than generous with their creativity and hard work, so we owe them an enormous debt. Clinton Sparks, above all, has tirelessly guided us toward success and endurance, a tall order with obnoxious perfectionists like us!

“Pop That Body”

04.13.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By David D.

Triple 6 in their younger years…

Well, this is an unexpected turn of events.

There are two songs named “Lollipop” blowing up right now. Neither versions will win any spots in the annals of great lyrical showcases, but dammit they’re catchy as hell.

For my money, Triple 6′s version is more of a go-wild club hit than Wayne’s. The group’s energy is off the charts as usual, and it’s matched with a vocoder-laced hook. While Wayne’s version gets a little stagnant towards the middle with the constant “Lollipop” repetition, Three Six refuses to let the listener relax for a moment as the beat changes at about every sixteen bars and it’s easy to tell they’re experimenting/expanding their repertoire. Every verse has some sort of vocally-affected adlib to add depth to the rapper’s delivery, making each one stand out in a different way. Read the rest of this entry »
