Shoot, for that price, you can cop enough to include a copy in every one of the Crinxmas cards you sent out of you, your lady and your pitbull. Or, maybe even deliver one to your distributor, just to let him know you appreciate not getting the shake from the bottom of the bag. Now, that’d be classy.

Appreciating something after it’s gone is the exact opposite of one of life’s primary lessons. But at least there are re-runs and DVD sets. The semi-autobiographical sitcom detailing Chris Rock’s childhood in Brooklyn, New York, Everybody Hates Chris, has been off the air since last year. The sad thing is, it was never truly appreciated on my part until earlier this year.
During the month of February, D.C. was under what felt like 60 feet of snow. All that idle time eventually led to me discovering a marathon of Chris’s creation. To make a long story much shorter, it now ranks as one of the few shows outside of anything ESPN related, Law & Order: SVU and a few other programs I’ll even pay attention to. “Martin” it is not, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its fair share of knee-slapping moments.
Similar to Gotty and his not-so-secret addiction to “The Game,” this is to me. I can kill an entire day watching Chris encounter some of the most hilariously, depressing moments of his young Bed-Stuy life. The narration from Rock himself pushes it over the top. Even the racist teacher is entertaining. So, yeah, Everybody Hates Chris = quality television.
It even allowed Terry Crews to come up and become known for something more than just “Damon.” Terry Tate’s twin brother locked down a reality show and another sitcom because his tenure on Everybody… For as much as I support progression in any form, I could do without those Old Spice commercials, however.

How you can make a remake of a three-year-old movie is beyond me but Chris Rock and his band of brothers (figuratively speaking,) are putting it into play for Black folks next year.
With Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Kevin Hart co-starring and Loretta Devine playing the same character she does in every movie, there should be more than a few scenes to leave you *dead*. Can’t really go wrong with Zoë Saldaña either. Read the rest of this entry »

That boy Christopher Bridges has done quite well for himself since he came back for the first time 8 years ago. Now, with 3 Grammys, 6 albums and 15 million records sold, as well as 12 movies, and numerous businesses under his belt, Mr. Bridges, commonly known as Ludacris, is a different man with different goals and a new challenge to make a different album.
At this stage in his career, he no longer has the luxury of sticking to a formula, and regurgitation, but cannot run the risk of straying to far from his diehard base and newfound audience lest he find his creative initiative scrutinized like Kanye others did….just less successful. So it is that Christopher chose to try something new to him, but not foreign to us, putting a somewhat fresh spin on the age-old, career saving, ‘concept album’ concept. Read the rest of this entry »
