The iPod Shuffle – C-Murder’s “Makin’ Moves”

07.17.11 Written by Beware

They don’t make ‘em like C-Murder anymore. While we currently question 90% of the artists in the genre of rap No Limit helped enunciate during The Tank’s illustrious heyday, no one ever questioned Master P’s loose cannon little brother Corey. Read the rest of this entry »

C-Murder Feat. B. Streezy – “Tomorrow”

05.24.10 Written by MZ

At some point, C-Murder managed to record enough material for a new album, presumably while on house arrest last year as he awaiting a new trial for the murder charges he was facing. While we all know the outcome at this point, one could assume that Corey would’ve taken the opportunity to shed some light on his thoughts during a stressful & uncertain time in his life.

Backed by an uplifting guitar lick and chorus, C-Murder puts on a brave face while anticipating the day he beats the charge. For all the assumptions about his presumed innocence, there are certain lines that could give credence as to why P decided to wash his hands of this whole situation. Freedom over street cred would seem to be a smart move, but it almost seems like Corey revels in the hood stripes he’s received from this whole ordeal. It’s a shame because this song kind of leaves me wanting to hear more from him, even though I already know how the story ends. Read the rest of this entry »

B.G. Feat. Soulja Slim, Lil Boosie & C-Murder – “N_gga Owe Me Some Money”

A nice share of the Boot’s baddest together on a song. The lyrics and production aren’t the only eery characteristics of the track when you consider that of the featured artists one’s deceased, two are incarcerated and Gizzle just caught a gun charge earlier this month. Today’s Headline: “C-Murder Cannot Afford Appeal For Murder Case”

c-murder-1

For over a decade, I watched my grandfather & then my father spend incessantly on my aunt Jean, now the former junkie. Court costs. Giving her money for “food” (you know where that went). Paying her rent. Paying in pain when they would hear of the latest stunt she’d pulled in the streets. Being “old street aggins,” they never showed their pain & their were no tears. Yet the anguish was visible, the frustration seeped out on the rare times they chose to share their feelings. Read the rest of this entry »

Rounds Out The Tank…

08.06.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words by David D.

Many labels/crews promise to release albums from all of their members only leaving us waiting for (or forgetting) an album from “Crewmember A” is supposed to come out. For better or worse, this didn’t happen with No Limit. 23 albums. The label dropped 23 albums (each equipped with it’s own phonetic spelling) in 1998. That’s almost two albums a month! These guys flooded the market in ways Lil’ Wayne could only dream of.

There were commercial successes with Master P’s MP Da Last Don, Silkk’s Charge It 2 Da Game, and Mystikal’s Ghetto Fabulous. These albums, powered by mega-singles such as “It Ain’t My Fault” and the rambunctious “That’s That Nigga.” The crew also put out some straight bangers with the underrated Fiend album There’s One in Every Family and Mia X’s Mama Drama. While Silkk, P, and Mystikal were making grand strides to the mainstream, Fiend and Mia X had the hood’s ear.

Look a little closer and you’ll see some hidden gems from artists whose careers ended too soon. Soulja Slim released a slept on Give It 2 ‘Em Raw while C-Murder was repping on the terribly prophetic Life Or Death.

If you want to actually go to the record store and cop these albums, there’s no need to try to look them up by title or artist. Just look for the portion of the store with the most light reflecting off, because 21 No Limit albums meant 21 faux-diamond encrusted lettering and shitty photoshopping. The albums are collectors items just for the sheer hood-campiness they provide.

From Master P all the way down to Skull Duggery, No Limit flooded the stores, guaranteeing that everyone out there had to be a fan of somebody on the label…right? Read the rest of this entry »

“Gangstafied Lyrics” – Review Of C-Murder’s Screamin’ 4 Vengeance

07.11.08 Written by TC

Damn it feels good to be a gangsta. Just ask C-Murder. Incarcerated for most of this decade for living out his stage name, the only Miller boy focused on music these days is currently free and yelling for the cause of his retribution. Originally slated for a release last year, Screamin’ 4 Vengeance gets a slight makeover with a virtually new tracklist, including a couple of new remixes that help balance things out when CP3 gets a little complacent with his subject matter.

Apparently honing his craft while in the belly of the beast, C showcases a versatility within his flow that wasn’t present on his days with No Limit. “Get Fresh” is a parking lot pimpfest with enough treble to be classified as “trunk candy” and we find the Calliope projects O.G. getting his smooth operator on. Likewise, on the remix to “Posted On Tha Block,” his strong opening verse ensures he won’t be left in the dust amongst the heavy guest list which includes the long-lost Mia X. “I Be Damned If I Do, And Damned If I Don’t …”

03.15.06 Written by Gotty™

“Hail Mary, please help me, cause I know my foes won’t
Rest — until they see me surrounded by grief
Wear a wreath, and my grave reading ‘rest in peace’
How can the whole world hate me and turn they back?
Cause I’ma TRU motherfucker, any nigga know that
I stand my ground, ain’t trippin’ on what turf you claim
I put my faith in God’s hands, it’s a white man’s land
Straight from the wounds of my momma’s belly
To the streets, to the pen, I wish somebody’d tell me
Cause I’m lost like a needle in the hay
Before I lay, I pray, and steady searchin’ for a better day
And I’m guilty for the crime of telling the truth
And my conviction is the blame for whatever you do
And backpains from the world on my shoulder blades
But I be damned if they send me to an early grave”

C-Murder – “Damned If They Murder Me”

I know I’m one to glorify violence at times and root for the bad guy even though I know he’s guilty.

But something about dude’s whole case seemed a little off intially.

So, it’s good to hear that C-Murder is out on bond.

Shit, it’s really good to hear about mostly anyone gettin out from behind bars because the place changes so many people in negative ways and fails to “rehabilitate” or “correct” as the names of the facilities often portray.

Let’s hope that his new trial sees him free for good and C comes back and realizes the blessings and opportunities before him and utilizes them to the fullest.

Two strong C-Murder tracks with him doing his best thug thing.

“Down For My Aggins” – Guaranteed to fuck up a club scene from the opening horns with even the chicks gettin rowdy.

“Damned If They Murder Me” - Somber sound and song, Ms. Peaches singing a gospel-tinged hook plus featuring another No Limit Tank Dog locked in the system, MAC (FREE MAC!…Truly because he case is grimier than C’s).

And without a doubt, let’s hope Master P and his brother make amends because during their labels prime there wasn’t too many others touchin them.

To me, although they put out a lot of material, an understatement at best, the I’m Bout It Soundtrack had to be one of their best.

The first five to seven songs themselves showcase the uncanny ability that, whoever truly oversaw this project, had to pick songs. Nothing overly lyrical. Just solid beats and good artists not slacking as is par the course for most soundtracks.

Brothha Lynch Hung rhyming over the dark, sythesized “Situation On Dirty” and starting off with the grimey “Hit that aggin fo’bout fo’zonessss…..” as the bass literally drops.

E-40 and B-Legit on “Come On”…aww fuck it. It’s impossible to quote 40 because there’s no way you can convey the charisma and sound he gives a track…but for quotables…

“Give me some Valiums and some Robitussin and watch me do it
Dip my cancer stick into some imbalming fluid
Show your I.D then pass it right back to me cousin cause see I’m a minor
and these wet daddies got your partner sweating like drippy ass vagina
Let me up in this bitch-ass club security or me and my guys gone bum
rush these doors make it so it won’t be no more rap shows”

Mystikal doing his best bounce on “What Cha Think”…Master P outshining 8-ball and MJG, AND U.G.K. on “Meal Ticket” (Don’t believe me? Listen!)…the remorseful tone of “If I Could Change” that showed that P & crew mastered the hook pretty well…the ’97 club anthem “How You Do Dat”. They even flipped the script and added one of the smoothest R&B, “we fuckin tonite” songs ever with “Pushin’ Inside You” by Sons Of Funk.

Truly, there’s no brain food for the average rap fan on here. But that was never No Limit’s aim as they sought only to give war music to soldiers and consolation music to repentative thugs.

And they did it so well.

No Limit Records – I’m Bout It OST

Oh…and don’t get me started on the movie lol. Down South, we don’t have high rise projects…we got them big ass widespread collections of interconnected buildings. And the characters…they were only slightly exaggerated because our crime areas are floded with entertaining fiends and straight ignorant savages just like they played it.
