On Boston, The Braves, Baseball’s Finest Night & Death Row Records

09.29.11 Written by J. Tinsley

Love baseball, like baseball or hate baseball. One thing baseball was Wednesday night was flat out jaw-dropping. And as I sat at work Thursday morning, the thought looped in my head that the previous night’s events were familiar, like I had seen them before. Then it hit me a la Pete Rose barreling into home plate. Read the rest of this entry »

Last Night In Basebrawl: Boston Red Sox Vs. Baltimore Orioles

07.09.11 Written by AJ

The Baltimore Orioles have long been a glorified punching bag to their AL East rivals, routinely getting their asses handed to them by teams like the Yankees and Red Sox. Some of that frustration boiled over last night in a benches clearing brawl with the Red Sox, one that saw iconic slugger David Ortiz charge the mound and throw wayward punches at Orioles relief pitcher Kevin Gregg. TSS 2009 MLB Playoff Preview & Predictions

10.08.09 Written by Patrick M.

2009 was not a great year for the MLB. Continued steroid scandals, dropping attendance and a notable lack of September drama (unless you consider to .500 teams battling to get shellacked in the playoffs drama), mean that MLB could really use a good October. With flagship franchises like the Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cardinals all involved in the proceedings, the stage is set. Below are TSS resident baseball gurus — Jason H. and myself — prognostications on how it will all unfold.

ALDS — Boston Vs. LA Angels

Patrick M. – LA Angels in 5: Boston’s owned Anaheim’s finest to the tune of a 9-1 postseason ass beating this decade. But this Sox team isn’t quite to the caliber of the last five years. Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis and the Fenway crowd won’t let the Sawx go out without a fight. Look for John Lackey to finally best the Red Sox in the playoffs in Game 5. TSS 2009 MLB Preview: The American League

04.04.09 Written by TSSCrew

Conventional “baseball” wisdom says that the American League is the better league. Beating the National League for six consecutive All-Star games would prove that. Unfortunately for the AL, two out of three World Series titles have gone to the other league (Cardinals, Phillies).

In our second installment of the TSS MLB Preview, we give our staff picks to those teams who could possibly shift the balance of power back to the AL. With the snore of the AL West and the unpredictability of the AL Central, trust that the AL East soap opera will continue to dominate the sports pages.

–On a side note, I just hope I don’t have to see any A-Rod (“A” standing for arrogant) flicks ever again.

Feel free to backtrack & read yesterday’s entry previewing the National League.

AL East Projected Standings — Patrick M.

1. Boston Red Sox
2. New York Yankees
3. Tampa Bay Devil Rays
4. Baltimore Orioles
5. Toronto Blue Jays

This is a brutal division – the top 3 teams may be the 3 best teams in baseball and Baltimore and Toronto could both compete for a playoff spot in weaker divisions. Ultimately I’m picking the Red Sox for 3 reasons. Read the rest of this entry »

Men In Tights…

10.12.08 Written by TSSCrew

Words By Malik V.

As someone who plans his days around sporting events, both the ones I play and the ones I watch, autumn is a beautiful thing. The NFL is in full swing, and as a result, I do all my homework on Saturdays so I can watch nine hours of football on Sundays. The NBA is on its way back, and the start of preseason games brings about the anticipation for opening tip-off night, which is just a few weeks away. While the pros make their money, the student-athletes do their thing on the field, making Thursday nights and Saturdays all the more enjoyable.

You may or may not have noticed, I made no mention of the MLB playoffs in my rundown. Read the rest of this entry »
