Remember when it was okay for rappers to dance & entertain in their videos instead of posturing beside a car or stand while a female rubbed their hind parts against them?
Word to the green screen, things done changed.
When I think of rappers that embody everything that says “He’s a New York aggin” to an outsider, Mega Montana is it. Sharp lyrics. Street vernacular mixed with a definite command of the English language.
He brings a select few members of Hip-Hop’s history along with him on this track, which is slated to be featured on his upcoming album.

A culmination of things led to this post.
All of the mumblings & commentary regarding Warren G.’s arrest (FYI: The charges were dropped this morning). A convo I had with Trackstar yesterday about homies who used to aspire to rap but ended up leaving the game for life with a family & a 9 to 5′s. And then, this D-Nice blog entry that I read about a convo he had with Big Daddy Kane. Unknown to most, D has kept his hands in many aspects of Hip-Hop that have little to do with music – photography, web design, etc. I’ve followed D because his photography is purely amazing as well as the subjects he chooses to shoot.
One of the things Kane said to me that still keeps me motivated was when he compared what he was doing to what I was doing. He said, “Man, you have your web development company and you no longer rely on hip-hop to eat. I rap because it’s how I pay my bills. I can’t get a job in McDonalds and have a kid telling me, Kane, let me get a burger and some fries, and no half steppin’ with that either”.
We can laugh @ Kane for that one because that would be some hilarious shit. We can even poke fun @ Warren G and question his financial, business & personal actions even. Read the rest of this entry »
Busta must have some long arms, ’cause dude reached out on this one.
The artists featured here as well as the sound & feel of the song span some twenty years, and everywhere in between. Still, the drums and bass keep that 80′s feel with a 2K twist. I pondered if it was a remake of “Warm It Up Kane”…’till my OG Gottyâ„¢ rightfully put me on game.
BTW…Rhymes kills his own remixes, too.

I hate to admit it but I didn’t grow up in a rap friendly home. As much as I’ve always loved the music, if it wasn’t along the likes of MC Hammer or DC Talk my mom wasn’t having it. It was cool when it was just me and my dad; we would watch Rap City or the Box, at least until my mom came home. To be fair my dad liked rap to a degree, but the arguments with my mom weren’t worth it (something I would understand as I got older.) Read the rest of this entry »
