Ke$ha Feat. Andre 3000 – “Sleazy (Remix)”

01.15.11 Written by Gotty™

No need to front as if Ke$ha’s relevant to what we do, as we all can peacefully coexist in our separate lanes. But when anybody can stir Andre 3000 out of the Batcave to make an appearance, we must applaud their efforts. Read the rest of this entry »

Chris Brown Feat. Drake, T.I., Kanye West, Fabolous & André 3000 – “Deuces (Remix)”

10.01.10 Written by TC

Twas the week that Kanye cancelled was on the fence for G.O.O.D. Fridays yet and still, he managed to appear on a star-studded mpfree with the rest of his emotional rap brothers. But the real story here is obviously how Chris Brown was able to fill his BlackBerry with reliable contacts for “Deuces (Remix),” including a Mr. André Aloysius Dookie Love Lauren Benjamin. Could it be that we’re fiend for his verses so much that we make a bigger fuss than needed or is he really that good? Read the rest of this entry »

OutKast Is (Somewhat) Back!

09.08.10 Written by J. Tinsley

It can’t be said enough that the Southernplayalistic duo from the Peach State made that list because we’re unsure if we’ll ever see another album from Stacks and Sir Lucious Left Foot. It had not a damn thing to do with talent. The archives tell the entire story of how we feel about ‘Kast, both individually and collectively. Read the rest of this entry »

Andre Benjamin Is…

09.02.10 Written by Raj

Graphic by Talia

With each passing day that we aimlessly wander through this vast, barren desert that is Outkast-less Hip-Hop, our thirst for their return grows exponentially. In recent months, Big Boi has blessed us with enough material to get by – for now. However, this has curiously served to increase our thirst for new a Outkast project or, at the very least, a solo Andre 3000 album. Read the rest of this entry »

Big Boi Feat. Yelawolf – “You Ain’t No DJ” Video

09.02.10 Written by TC

“Yodjainnodjhejusmakedozfucinmixtapes”

I double dare…matter fact I triple dare you to say Big Daddy Fat Sax doesn’t have one of the nicest albums in 2010 (along with the strongest video campaign). Going in for his sixth Emmy of Sir Lucisous Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty, Big Boi and Yelawolf control the streets of Atlanta with just a selector switch. Read the rest of this entry »

Hip-Hop Is For The Kids

07.17.10 Written by David D.

I saw Despicable Me last weekend and I’m not the least bit ashamed. Steve Carell was his usual hilarious self, turning in a nice performance while those little minions were good for a few laughs. I’m not surprised that I laughed a few times. I am surprised, though, that I was doing a little two-step in my seat the whole movie thanks to Pharell’s catchy score. Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “Pink & Blue”

I have to give my better half full credit. She was the one who actually had this on shuffle the other day and I snuck to hit repeat. Read the rest of this entry »

Ciara Feat. Andre 3000 & Bei Major – “Ride (Remix)”

06.12.10 Written by MZ

Cementing the notion that all things comes in threes, we’ve got another André 3000 sighting. Perhaps BET’s banning of her video (despite the puzzling fact they rarely even play videos) was a blessing in disguise, as this light and airy remix is perfect for Saturday morning skate jams, backyard gatherings & more importantly radio spins. Taking full advantage of the whimsical backdrop, Three Stacks is playful in both his word play & delivery, while taking his crack at young CiCi. Happy hunting Mr. Benjamin & I wish you much success if it’ll get you to stick around for awhile. Read the rest of this entry »

Is Jive Records Trying To Keep Outkast Apart?

06.08.10 Written by David D.

Jive Records can eat a bag of baby dongs.

We’ve waited damn near a decade for new Outkast (no, Idlewild doesn’t count) and Jive records has pretty much guaranteed that the reunion won’t be taking place on Big Boi’s forthcoming album. Big explained the whole scenario to the good folks at the Gentleman’s Quarterly. Read the rest of this entry »

André 3000 Does Nike Ads Now?

06.04.10 Written by David D.

Well isn’t this interesting? Nike somehow got Three Stacks to cover The Beatles’ “All Together Now” for a commercial celebrating Kobe’s legacy as a Laker. While the visuals get you prepared for the Finals, the song only gives me hope knowing that André has sniffed the inside of a studio sometime recently. Read the rest of this entry »

The iPod Shuffle – “Da Art Of Storytellin’ (Part 2)”

05.19.10 Written by David D.

For a long time, I never quite understood the relationship between the two parts of “Da Art of Storytellin’.” It dawned on me one day that the two songs tell the same story. The same stories of deconstruction that plague Suzy Screw and her partner Sasha in “Part One” are happening to Mother Nature in “Part Two.” Decay, the ills of the human condition and betrayal are all tropes that permeate both tracks. In part two, Three Stacks (no relation to Kat) reprises his role as the omniscient on-looker, witnessing the downfall of Sasha Thumper and miscreants gang-raping Mother Nature. His story is standard 3000, full of science-fiction, Technicolor, acid-filled rain, and detesting of silly mortals. Big Boi, on the other hand, rolls up the worst in all of us into three lines: Read the rest of this entry »

Vibrate…Higher

04.22.10 Written by TC

Today is Earth Day. Whatever that means. A day when cigarette butts, cheeseburger wrappers and Sunkist® cans are supposed to cease from hitting the pavement, I guess. Such observance periods are pretty futile in hindsight. Like time is supposed stop for eco-activists who want you to turn off the lamp to appease your neighborhood generators. An Open Letter To Outkast

01.12.10 Written by J. Tinsley

Dear ‘Kast,

We here at TSS are huge fans of your work. The old stuff, the new stuff and everything in between. We’ve covered all the bases round these parts. We even had a sit down some time ago. Hell, my first post was related to you all. That being said, it’s a new year and I, personally, have new-found hope of walking into a Best Buy on some random Tuesday of this year and spending my money (yes, I still purchase CD’s) on a project cultivated by you two. The Literary Corner: Outkast, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge

11.23.09 Written by David D.

Welcome back, class.

If you recall, the last installment of the Literary Corner featured a comparison between the almighty Ghost Deini and Gerard Manley Hopkins. This time we’ll look at works through the generations that are two sides of the same coin: the works of English Romantic poets William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge along with Atlanta lyricists Big Boi and Andre 3000, collectively known as Outkast. “If It Ain’t 808 In Da Trunk, It Ain’t Knock…”

11.21.09 Written by TC

I have no explanation why I woke up with this song in my head. The music junkie’s brain processes memories to the forefront rather strangely. Regardless, it got me charged; hearing those thunderous 808s blare from whatever contraption Organized Noize developed them from. It’s also funny how an ambiguous pairing of Mystikal and Outkast could thread the lines of squeaky clean-Dirty South funk. Read the rest of this entry »
