Is it still acceptable to call negroes “colored”? What happened to all the clothes? Are they implying that Black people lurk in your washing machine siphoning detergent, stealing clothes and kidnapping white people? Who comes up with this lunacy?

See, if I came home and found He-Man getting his Power Sword polished in wifey’s Grayskull, the last thing I would need is a beer. Aside from thirst not being a priority, beers generally don’t make for good projectiles. They are fragile and have no balance. Even if they did, my aim would probably be off from all the rage and the Heineken would likely smack the back of her head and his hand. Vibe is officially under observation as rumors have surfaced that they may not have enough money to print the upcoming issue.

Executives from the Wicks Group (Private Equity Owners) came to the office on Friday and met with CEO Steve Aaron and Publisher Edgar Hernandez. Things around the office are very tense.

The tipster says that more meetings are scheduled for this afternoon. And they say that the only ads Vibe has booked for the March issue are “Army, Carson Soft Sheen & Jamster”—not even a fifth of the usual number of ads.

While this may be a rumor, there is often a sliver of truth in each fruit off the grapevine and since this one deals with ad space it probably does ring a more true. Ad sales are an essential part of the lifeblood that keeps a magazine’s ink pumping. To not have 4/5 of your ads filled would be detrimental and would have any magazine scrambling. Remember when Sprite used to bring the ruckus when it came to marketing?

Yeah, they held it down for Hip-Hop no question, but they also succeeded in bringing in some laughter in between your favorite TV shows. And as silly as these ads were, they offered an honest critique on some of the marketing ploys that flooded the airwaves — much like the Hip-Hop that debuted during the time these spots ran.
