Somebody Give Ron Artest A Reality Show

06.18.10 Written by David D.

The greatest thing to come out of the NBA Playoffs this year has been Ron Artest in front of a live mic. He made Craig Sager rep for Queensbridge Projects then thanked his psychiatrist after game 7. But all of that was just the appetizer for the entree – a meal that, I imagine, includes turkey necks and Grape drink – that was the awkwardness of the entire Artest squad bombarding Hannah Storm for the post-game interview. VH1, you love painting Black people in the most positive light possible. I implore you to pitch a Ron Artest reality show. We need it. Read the rest of this entry »

Open Thread: Lakers Vs. Celtics Game 6

06.15.10 Written by TC

The Celtics just played their last home game of the season and a win today will put the Lakers in similar territory — something they don’t want. Kobe proved last game that even a Jordan-esque performance doesn’t make him the Great One. Will the Hollywood crowd give the rest of his teammates the juice he need to compete or will (insert random Celtic that shows up) take the Green to the promised land? Read the rest of this entry »

Open Thread: Lakers Vs. Celtics Game 4

06.10.10 Written by TC

The Black Mamba is moving it like a snake on his way to hole for easy baskets and Old Man Fisher’s tears are making the court quite the slippery slope for the Celtics to get any sort of offensive transactions going. Will the Lakers take the commanding 3-1 lead? Can Boston’s big 3 actually score more than 20 points as an unit? Will anyone ever ball in Converse Weapons again? All this and more in due time… Read the rest of this entry »

Open Thread: Lakers Vs. Celtics Game 3

06.08.10 Written by TC

The series is tied 1-1 but it might as well be nothing to nothing. After a full-court yellowwash on L.A.’s end, the Celtics bounced with help from the Ray-Raj brothers. Much like the prophecies stated, the momentum has been swinging like a pendulum. Read the rest of this entry »

The 10 Things You Missed In Game Two

06.07.10 Written by Gotty™

A list of probable things you may have not noticed from Game 2. Strike off the one entry talking about Ray Ray raining three pointers in the first half, tying a Finals record. Everyone clearly saw that (right Kobe?). We’re talking about a few of the under the radar items, like “Boston Sucks” being incorporated into “The National Anthem” and Lakers fans reluctant to wear white. Read the rest of this entry »

2010 NBA Playoff Finals Preview: Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Boston Celtics

06.03.10 Written by TSSCrew

Just in case you’ve spent the last 50 years of your life taking stool samples of rhesus monkeys in the forests of Thailand and have missed the Celtics-Lakers rivalry in its entirety, here’s a brief recap. The 1960s Celtics made the Lakers into their personal Washington Generals, beating them six times in the Finals in less than a decade. In the 80s, Magic and Kareem finally exacted revenge against Larry Legend and company as the two titans of the NBA traded titles while simultaneously raising the league to newfound heights of popularity. The Lakers continued to reign supreme in the NBA throughout the last few decades while Boston entered what can only be known as the Dark Ages of the franchise. The rivalry was thought to be dead.

That is, until two years ago, when a few shrewd trades from both front offices returned both teams to their rightful places in the NBA hierarchy: battling for supremacy on the respective sport’s biggest stage. This time it was the Celtics that prevailed, embarrassing the Lakers and their golden boy Kobe Bryant with a 39-point blowout victory in a clinching Game 6. Undeterred, the Lakers bounced back to snag their own title in 2009, while Kevin Garnett’s knee injury prevented Boston from defending their crown.

The teams took different roads to get back to the mountain top in 2010. L.A. rode home court advantage and a vintage Kobe hot streak, while Boston rediscovered their defensive dominance and late-game execution after a shoddy regular season. Ultimately none of it matters as it’s time for both the rubber match of the last three years and the 12th installment of this classic showdown. Lakers. Celtics. Kobe. KG. The Truth. The Zen Master. Fake boobies for Laker Fans. Big Baby’s boobies for the Irish. If you can’t get excited about this, you need to seriously consider a cocaine addiction. To get you ready for tonight’s Game 1 tip-off, the TSS NBA Crew breaks down the matchups and makes their predictions on who will be laughing last. Read the rest of this entry »

“Say Queensbridge.”

When Taking A Charge Almost Went Wrong

05.19.10 Written by J. Tinsley

It is already bad enough networks still continue to show LeBron’s block on Jason Richardson’s failed 360 dunk from last season. Now he’s got this to remember. During Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals, the former Slam Dunk Champion almost saw the unthinkable go down thanks in part to Chris Brown’s identical cousin (and Slam Dunk Contest bust), Shannon Brown. TSS 2010 NBA Playoff Preview: Western Conference Finals – Los Angeles Lakers Vs. Phoenix Suns

05.17.10 Written by TSSCrew

Brace yourself, there’s about to be a shootout in the cities of Los Angeles and Phoenix. The Lakers and Suns have met a total of 11 times in the playoffs with the Lakeshow winning seven. However, their last meeting in the first round of the 2006 playoffs is what is still etched in the minds of millions – most importantly Kobe Bryant.

After falling behind 3-1 in the series, Phoenix pulled off one of the greatest postseason comebacks in history by winning the next three games. Lakers fans haven’t forgotten that since. Nothing short of drama and nothing short of firepower, the present day match up is being billed as potentially the best series of the entire playoffs. With names like Gasol, Stoudamire, Nash and Bryant leading the charge, it very well could be. Read the rest of this entry »

Yes, Tony Allen Just Dunked On You, Antawn

05.14.10 Written by S.Cadet

Well, Cleveland got exiled from the playoffs once again, this time at the hands of the C’s. As much as I despise Boston (90% due to Paul Pierce), I gotta hand it to them for showing that five is greater than one: or none in the case of game five. In the meantime, Tony Allen’s monstrous dunk over Sweet n’ Lo Jamison deserves some burn since it pretty much caps how Boston beat the Lebroners: swiftly, efficiently and, according to some, unexpectedly. The Life & Times Of LeBron’s Elbow

05.07.10 Written by MZ

Cleveland is a city that lives and dies (mainly dies) by its professional sporting teams. It’s so bad that instead of having banners to hang their hats on, they have losses. Heartbreaking losses & signature plays to be more specific. Say The Catch, Red Right 88, The Drive, The Shot, The Fumble or Edger Renteria’s extra inning hit & nothing more needs to be said. The only thing more frustrating than these epic plays is that Cleveland teams are always on the verge of success when they occur. It’s one thing to never even sniff success, but it’s something entirely different to have it snatched from you grasp over & over again.

This season, the hopes of Northeast Ohio rest on the shoulders & elbow of LeBron James. His sore elbow, which unless you’ve been living under a rock, has been the talk of the media over the past week and a half. While test results have come back negative, on look at James’ last game against the Celtics will show something is bothering him.  Be it mental, physical, fatigue or some combination of all these factors, the public wants to know what’s going on.

Thanks to the marvelous powers of Twitter, we can get information straight from the horse’s elbow’s mouth.  Striking a balance between informative tidbits & entertaining quips, 11 days & 6,608 followers later, LeBron’s elbow is in the process of taking Twitter by storm. Below I’ve provided a sampler on the genius that is Lebron’s Elbow.

The only question that remains is whether this year will be remembered as The Elbow if the Cavs do happen to lose.

April 27th 10:56pm

With these unassuming words of encouragement LeBron’s most famous appendage made his voice heard for the first time. Little did we know the comedic gold that would be shortly following.

April 27th 10:59pm

Obviously not his first time at the rodeo, LeBron’s Elbow is well versed in post doctor’s visit procedures.

April 28th 4:06pm

With MRI results coming back negative, it was time for a confession. I’ll have to remember this home remedy come late August when the pollen count rises.

April 30th 1:20pm

My personal fave & the one that initially led me down the rabbit hole.

May 1st 3:04pm

This explains a lot about Big Baby. A lot. Someone in Bristol needs to get this guy a segment on NBA Shootaround.

May 1st 8:30pm

Didn’t we all buddy, didn’t we all.  Hindsight being 20/20, we probably would’ve been better with game one going into quadruple overtime.

May 2nd 2:04pm

Understandably miffed for not being mentioned at all, this omission could be proverbial straw that breaks the Cavs back (& season).

May 3rd 7:59pm

Don’t blame game two on the ‘bow. He’s just a perturbed as Cavalier fans.

May 5th 5:38am

Can you really blame the fella? Three+ MRI’s have to affect you in one way or another… and we all know what too much radiation did to Terry Crews’ bicep.

May 6th 4:05pm

Watch out Chuck Norris… LeBron’s gunning for you suburban legend title.

Follow @LeBronsElbow to keep up with the latest shenanigans.

Sidebar: Will these playoffs will be remembered as “The Elbow” if the Cavs don’t win the chip?

Los Suns Oppose Arizona’s SB 1070 Law

05.04.10 Written by Gotty™

These are the kinds of things that should be highlighted in sports. In a bold move of support against Arizona’s SB 1970, the Phoenix Suns will wear their “Los Suns” jerseys on Wednesday (coincidentally it’s Cinco De Mayo too) for Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals, according to Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver.
