With the influx of music that’s come across our paths over the past few weeks it’s been hard to keep my head above water. Pill’s latest 1140: The Overdose kinda got lost in the shuffle, actually there’s no kinda about it – after two or three listens it was on the next one. Unfilling to let this project be swept to the wayside, he hooked up with Motion Family to provide visuals for one of his tape’s standout tracks “On Da Korner.”

Eloquently chronicling the life of a foot soldier over Needlz’ pulsating synths & haunting vocal insert, Pill’s on top of his game with this one. I’ve been trying to remember the name of this track for the past few days (because looking in my Touch is so much work) to throw a few words on it, but the Motion Family did a much better job as they brought Pill’s already vivid tale to life. They take you so far in the trap you may very well have white fingertips when your done watching.

The large, looming cardboard image of Gangsta Pill was the first thing that greeted anyone walking up to Club Crucial on Thursday night, as Pink City’s most talented prodigy took over the venue for a one night stand celebrating the release of his latest mixtape, 1140: The Overdose. Upon entry, the most visible sight was not the hundreds of club patrons but a full-fledged swarm of hard ankles roaming the spot in black tees emblazoned with “Four Fingers No Thumb,” repping their 4th Ward home. Ranging from certified vets to soldiers, they all moved with thousand yard stares and there to serve, protect and party with the man of the night. And I say party because many of them let loose the moment’s revelry, each doing their own little libation-induced two-step to the sounds of Atlanta’s patented club music. As he’s on the cusp of releasing his 1140: The Overdose Gangsta Grillz tape with DJ Drama, Pill drops a short visual that serves the dual purpose of sparking interest and paying homage to Eazy. Atlanta is just like Compton. And if Pill’s flowing like this while pullin’ on cancer sticks, imagine the problems fools would face if he cut back. In the words of Joe Biden, like universal health care for Americans, Pill’s upcoming Gangsta Grillz is “a big f#ckin’ deal.” America, as it shouldn’t be a surprise, loves sex. So, therefore, America loves freaks and Pill makes no qualms about it on this recently liberated ode over Usher and Nicki’s sexually charged anthem. It is funny, however, how McDonald’s has effectively become the jumpoff destination of fast food. Every red-blooded American under the age of 35 has at least one wild story involving the “Dollar Menu.” At least one.

Anyway, now that everyone can obtain equal medical care by law, look for 1140: The Overdose to be the epidemic which truly exposes Pill to the masses.
