Ain’t it too early for beef? Is anybody still paying attention?

AHH with the scoop for Beans’ latest verbal attack against Shawn Carter.

Philadelphia DJ Cosmic Kev debuted two brand new tracks by rapper Beanie Sigel tonight (November 21st) during his radio show on Power 99 FM. While the first track only contains one line about Jay-Z, the second track is sure to raise eye brows. On the second track, Sigel issued another harsh freestyle aimed at Jay-Z, this time dropping a verse over Cypress Hill’s hit “How I Could Just Kill a Man” renaming the song “How I Could Kill Jigga Man.” Sigel’s opening lines make use of Jay-Z’s signature battle song “Takeover,” which was originally a diss record to Jay-Z’s old nemesis, Nas and Mobb Deep. “You aint gonna say nothing boy?” Sigel says at the end of the song taunting Jay-Z. “Damn, I thought you was the boy, boy. You aint nothing but a boy, boy boy. I aint gonna stop boy.”

This is going nowhere fast & doesn’t look like it’s going to end well @ all. What can Sigel really say about Jay that hasn’t been said? Does anybody really remember A-Rod’s steroid controversy after the Yankees won the championship? Nope, it’s swept under the rug and forgotten. Unless it’s completely damaging, Beans’ lines will only be dings in Jay’s armor.

If Jay does choose to respond, it could lead to fratricide. If he doesn’t, Beans will be Jaz-O II, making YouTube appearances spewing negative remarks & making funny camel references, probably while dusted and disgusted off one of his many habits.

Either way, it’s a losing game for rap.

It’s been a long yet lucrative road to the release of Before I Self Destruct, 50 Cent’s much documented final record on his Interscope contract. Possibly the genre’s last mega-star before Hip-Hop was regressed by the digital age, 50 saw endless mounds of success through business ventures, movies and of course, platinum plaques. Although less notably, popular opinion reads that the caliber of his albums have slipped considerably since his towering debut, Get Rich Or Die Tryin’. Especially when factoring the runaway success of the lead single “In Da Club”–a phenom 50 has been obviously been trying to duplicate ever since. Taken all this into account, the G-Unit general retreads his steps to familiar waters for his 4th LP.

At times, 50 appears to bask in his trip to memory lane, given the majority of the record’s overly aggressive undertones. If that what it takes to make good music, however, then so be it. Before I Self Destruct’s fuse is lit instantly once the needle hits, taking 50 in a state of psychosis as he spazzes on ignited gems like Dr. Dre’s “Death To My Enemies” and the bone-chilling “The Invitation” where 50 openly begs for drama.

And when there’s drama, there’s murder. There’s no restrictions (or tact) in Fiddy’s tongue when it comes to being “So Disrespectful.” Over Tha Bizness’ sinister mix of escalating key chords and machine gun fire for decoration, 50 throws a few of his former associates under the bus and puts it in reverse to ensure he doesn’t miss. Eminem shows up as the only featured rapper on “Pyscho,” but the duo proceed to make Norman Bates proud as they make a killing with flows seemingly boosted with adrenaline.

Content-wise, BISD is mostly consistent in outlining the fabricated precedence 50 sets from the beginning. Typical fare like the requisitite my-girl-is-my gun “Hold Me Down” and intimidating “Crime Wave” round out the edges rather nicely. Quality wise though, the album’s mechanics begin to self destruct midway when Fif deems a “Rapper’s Delight” remake is acceptable in 2K9 on the lame “Gangster’s Delight” and tries to sneak in a potential club hit with the weaker “Get It Hot.”

Perhaps a more disorderly contradiction is the fact some of the more “cleaner” records serve as the more focused ones, despite not necessarily fitting in the tracklist. “Baby By Me” marks an umpteenth radio-ready sizzler for Mr. Jackson; strengthened by a crooning Ne-Yo and snazzy bassline. Same goes for “Do You Think About Me,” a reflective look back on past loves which is sure to cater to the female listener who is otherwise alienated for the greater part of the album. Even the inexplicable closer “Could Have Been You” is a polished record that save for the fact its positive attributes, has no business on the block with the rest of the wolves.

The next step in 50’s career crossroads still remains unclear but BISD is indicator Curtis Jackson is still capable of channeling his original sound. Maybe when he fades to black, he can put together all the pieces in their entirety.

Pull my hoe card, call me names, whatever. Let two good episodes come on and me have the spare time to watch. It’s a wrap. The sun’s gone down, day’s shifted to night. Tasks and errands are forgotten. I’ll start out on Team Derwin & end up secretly kind of rooting for Team Melanie when this dumbass fucks up once again. I’m well aware that by saying that I could possibly be breaking a man code. SMH. Just the sheer ignorance/quasi-dramatics of it all sometimes lures me in…yet, I watch in spite of myself.

And the fact that it’s featured on BET, the arch enemy of Black folks.

I have no explanation why I woke up with this song in my head. The music junkie’s brain processes memories to the forefront rather strangely. Regardless, it got me charged; hearing the those thunderous 808s blare from whatever contraption Organized Noize developed them from. It’s also funny how an ambiguous pairing of Mystikal and Outkast could thread the lines of squeaky clean-Dirty South funk.

On paper, you’d think Mystikal would’ve got destroyed, ripped to shreds. Although he had finally emerged as his own man after his enlistment on No Limit Records, this was Outkast at the height of their media darling takeover. MC Mystikal still earned a ribbon with his own lyrical branding, especially with the line “I wash ‘em up/ring ‘em out and throw ‘em in the dryer!!!”

Of course The Brothers Stankonia bodied the track. Big Boi ran laps around the beat like his name was Michael Johnson (the metaphor works for the song’s timeframe) and Dré…well…I mean…you hear it.

Snag this and turn it up LOUD. Picturesque lyricism in abundance.

Moi? I’m too lazy and none too fond of crowds to deal with Black Friday. And even the deals come with one too many stipulations that make it a borderline hoax, to which CNN agrees and suggests that some of the best buys are available online now if you’re observant.
