100-Word Review: Tech N9ne’s ‘Strangeulation’

By Raj / 06.15.14

Tech N9ne Strangeulation Cover Art

Strangeulation is like a bag of trail mix. For every M&M (“Hard”) there’s going be an almond (“Over It”, “Which One”) or two. There are so many different things going on at the same time that every part of it is sure to appeal to some faction of the Strange Music fanbase, but it’s achieved at the expense of the project’s cohesion. But that’s not to say it’s all bad. The rapping is generally on point, especially on the standout Blood anthem, “Red Rags,” and newer Strange Music signees Rittz and Murs prove why Tech’s label went after them in the first place.

Standout Songs: “Red Rag”, “Cypher”, All parts of the “Strangulation” series
Songs to Skip: “Na Na”, “We Are Free”
