Why The Game’s “Bigger Than Me” Is Good For Rap

“Tampon lyricists, evacuate the premises, Mute BET cyphers, because I don’t want to hear that shit, May be you rest in piss, f— n—-s”

The Game’s conflicted. Always has been, likely always will be. And he’s typically going to do more than his share of name-dropping on any song he’s solo on. Once we accept these truths, his true abilities shine through.

Sure, “Bigger Than Me” – the song and new video – are nothing more than a page from 50′s book of beef and album promotion as Game readies Blood Money La Familia for a September release. Using scare tactics for publicity usually either fall flat once listeners see through them or get ignored. But not when it comes to Game and, again, 50.

Through all of their loud talk, they both usually spit words that have the truth nestled somewhere in there once you peel back the layers. What Game does on “Bigger Than Me” is stir the pot with his lines: “Less than five albums? Kiss the ring on this motherf***er, California throne and I’m the king on this motherf***er.” His repeated lashings at new jacks remind us that most new artists are built off hot air that generates hype and inflated social network numbers that make it appear like they have a fanbase. Most have yet to prove themselves with the release of a true retail album or consistently packed out shows where they rocked it without rhyming over their CD.

Like 50, Game’s an agitator who doesn’t mind shaking things up. Nothing wrong with that and if it means it nudges others to show their competitive nature and prove him wrong. You can’t really run around calling yourself the best if you’ve never challenging anyone and walked away the victor or at least won their respect in defeat.

Game’s earned his stripes. Now, it’s time for the next generation to earn theirs.

Correction: Blood Money La Familia is Game’s September project, not Documentary 2.
