A week after locking down Earl Thomas with a four-year, $40M extension, the Seahawks shelled out the pennies for the league’s most recognizable and outspoken defensive back. Sherman took to his own website to announce the particulars of the deal. At four years and $57.4M (including a whooping $40M guaranteed), the deal exceeds Darrelle Revis’, making Sherm the highest paid corner in football.

I am blessed to announce that the Seattle Seahawks and I have reached an agreement on a contract extension. The goal has always been to stay in Seattle and continue to play for the Seahawks. With this chapter closed, I can continue to focus on what is important – defending our Super Bowl Championship and being the best cornerback in the NFL.

This is a great moment for my family, foundations and the people who supported me to this point. Hard work and execution got me to this moment, the Seattle Seahawks have backed up that respect with this contract. The terms of my deal are 4 years for a total of $57.4M with $40M guaranteed. There is no other city or team that I would want to play football for.

The dealt is two-fold. For the Seahawks, their defense remains intimidating despite losing members of their Super Bowl-winning unit in the offseason. For Sherman, playing next season wondering when a well-deserved pay day would arrive before becoming a free agent next season is a weight lifted off his shoulders. Now, both sides can focus on what matters: football.

And Russell Wilson’s impending extension.
