Yasiin Bey, also known as Mos Def, found himself on the outside looking in when trying to enter American borders.

According to the official site of Boston’s Together music festival, Yasiin has cancelled upcoming show due to “immigration/legal issues” that leave him “unable to enter back into the United States.”

Currently, Mos resides in Cape Town, South Africa. But, he was born and raised in Brooklyn, living there for 33 years before making the move to Africa.

Online speculation runneth amok with this one, ranging from he committed a crime to the U.S. is still pissed about that Guantanamo Bay video he filmed a few years ago. Then there’s the more simple suggestions that maybe there’s confusion regarding his legal name change or his passport expired, both highly plausible.

Whatever the case, let’s hope Mos gets everything straightened out.
