Even after one hell of an opening weekend in the 2014 NBA Playoffs, somehow the New York Knicks find a way to weasel back into our lives. They did so by doing something we all sort of figured was a foregone conclusion around Valentines Day by officially cutting ties with Steve Harvey Suit posterboy, Mike Woodson.

Yep, the entire coaching staff received pink slips, too, in what could be the first of several offseason moves for the Knicks.

Did Woodson deserve to lose his job? Sure. As Frank Isola mentioned after New York was eliminated from postseason contention, however, everyone in the organization shoulders some of the blame, from James Dolan down to the players themselves who (aside from Carmelo and maybe Tim Hardaway, Jr.) weaved in and out of giving a damn pretty much all season.

With Woody officially canned, expect Charles Barkley to unleash his finest “Steve Kerr to the Knicks” jokes tonight on TNT. Kerr has long been rumored to be Phil Jackson’s top choice to take over the reigns in Manhattan as Uncle Phil sweeps through like gangbusters implementing his influence on every facet of the organization. Because, well, you know, Phil and Steve have had success working together in the past in slightly different roles with slightly different personnel.

Now with Woodson gone, Jackson moves to perhaps the most discussed topic of the offseason: Carmelo Anthony’s future.
