The NBA’s Donald Sterling saga just took another unexpected twin, that’s for anyone who has already enough trouble keeping with the situation so far. The latest rumor creates a way for the NBA to oust the Clippers owner and bring in a new face, familiar face to the franchise: Magic Johnson.

Per Y! NBA, Magic and his business partners are said to be prepared to step in and buy the Clippers, creating an exit strategy that’s ultimately a winning one for all involved parties.

“Magic Johnson and his billionaire backers, the Guggenheim Partners, want a chance to purchase the Los Angeles Clippers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. “Magic’s absolutely interested,” one source closely connected to Johnson’s business interests told Yahoo Sports on Sunday night.

“To bail themselves out of the NBA’s worst crisis of credibility since the Tim Donaghy officiating scandal, the easy part for the NBA will be enlisting the eagerness and financial muscle of Magic Johnson and Mark Walter of the Guggenheim Partners – owners of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“For commissioner Adam Silver, the chance to turn the Clippers over to Magic Johnson and his partners is the best possible of solutions. Exit Sterling, enter Magic. It would be the greatest trade in sports ownership history since, well, Magic for the McCourts, with the Dodgers.”

Reportedly, the idea is “100 percent Magic’s plan” and he spoke out against Sterling on Sunday, call for the embattled owner to sell the team during an appearance on NBA Countdown.

The NBA’s already familiar with the Dodgers group after they stepped in to bail out the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks who were in financial distress and fear of folding.
But, if they are allowed to buy the LAC, that would make the group a sports entertainment powerhouse. However, Magic moving to the Clippers would mean he would have to do a total change considering his storied legacy with the other LA team – which includes his statue in front of Staples where he’s wearing his Laker uniform.

But in the right situation, the switch doesn’t sound like one Magic’s opposed to making.

Update: As it turns out, Magic doesn’t want the Clippers franchise after all. With one tweet, he dispelled the notion on Monday night, effectively ending the idea that he would turn his back on the purple and gold gang.
