The Lakers Start Their Search For A New Scapegoat

By J. Tinsley / 04.30.14

Sorry to interrupt your Wednesday evening NBA playoff viewing, but I come with a bit of hoops-related news emerging from Los Angeles. And thankfully, it has nothing to do with Donald Sterling.

For the second time in two years, Mike D’Antoni has resigned from a high-profile coaching position. Leaving with a 67-87 record since Jimmy Buss hired him over Phil Jackson in 2012, MDA resigned as Lakers head coach.

The real life Pringles man had been the target of a tidal wave of disdain from LakeShow faithful much of his tenure. Fair? Of course. His style of play never meshed with the roster he was given. Yet, with internal power struggles and a smorgasbord of injuries, it’s not like D’Antoni was ever playing with a full deck of cards and support either.

Now that this era of Lakers basketball is over, the franchise moves forward into a future with a guaranteed lottery pick, Nick Young, question marks of who to lure in during free agency, Nick Young, and, of course, their next head coach. Mark Jackson will undoubtedly be a name since he’s working on borrowed time if the “reports” are anything to believe. But what’s this guy praying for now? Four words, my friends.

Kobe Bryant, player-coach. Sweet baby Jesus, please let this happen. PLEASE!
