“I’m so Detroit I make it rise from the ashes.”

Excuse the writer whose only Jack White listening only involves White Stripes albums released between 1998 and 2003. He’s really missing out, and White’s latest solo single, “Lazaretto,” is proof of that mistake.

The initial recording was a stunt for Record Store Day, allowing Jack’s playing and cutting of it to become the fastest-released record of all time, and the below is the official-official album version. And it’s good: White lets rip over fat basslines, schizo guitar solos and his trademarked hurried, angsty yelp. “Lazaretto” also includes the above lyric, which makes even the fiercest Detroit emcees reconsider how they can top repping the D on wax this coming year.

So quit reading now. Just let the song play on loop for the rest of the day and bang out all those items on your to-do list with bravado.

“Lazaretto” will be on an album of the same name, due out June 10 on White’s Third Man Records.
