The Dream Is Feeling Real Black Right Now On His New Record

The iPod Shuffle – Young Jeezy’s “Trap Or Die (Intro)”

By J. Tinsley / 04.29.14

“Two hundred thousand mixtapes later
From the streets of the ‘Chat
To the hoods of Decatur
Same young n*gga made a killing with the snow
Turned right around and made a killing with the flow
The whole city at my shows
They recite my words
I guess they like the way that I recite them birds
Probably go to jail for some of the sh*t I said
Realest n*gga ever done it
Breathing or dead…”

Debate amongst yourselves whether or not it ranks alongside DMX in 1998 or Drake in 2009. But between Trap Or Die, the controversial Snowman tees being banned, TM101 and being dubbed the King of New York by XXL, Jeezy’s 2005 was one of those undeniable (mainstream) introductions that literally turned rap on its head.

And nearly 10 years later, it’s impossible for me to pick five better records The Snowman ever recorded than with his “Trap Or Die (Intro).” Listen to this in the car with me and we’ll have hood choir practice. This sh*t just sticks to the ribs.
