Watch Ty Dolla $ign’s Brother Create YG’s “Thank God” In Prison

By J. Tinsley / 03.27.14

Backstories of how songs came to be are one of my favorite pastimes. Take YG’s “Thank God (Interlude)” from his debut My Krazy Life for example. The premise of the song finds the Bad Kid from a m.A.A.d city in jail following a shootout with a fake homie who he had just hit a lick with.

Turns out the harmony for the record was, ironically, birthed in jail. Big TC – Ty Dolla $ign’s brother – and D Loc provided the blueprint as early as July 2013 inside the belly of the beast.

Lastly, as a shameless plug, head over to LA Weekly to check out a piece I penned on YG, Kendrick and the movie Boyz N The Hood. Spare a brother some clicks!
