Look, we understand that there's no work on Monday, which means American workers will probably be enjoying themselves at the bar or club on Sunday night. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day allows for that brief respite from the early-year slog, all in honor of one of our country's most influential civil rights leaders.
But quick buzz-term alert: in honor of. That's key, because last time we checked "in honor of" didn't include poorly designed promotional flyers that crop gold grills onto MLK's face. Or The Crystal Fox's dancers twerking asses on Dr. King's shoulders. Or, really, any sort of MLK likeness to promote a MLK Weekend event at a club.
Unfortunately, it happens, and it's gotten to the point where Dr. Bernice King, Martin's daughter, has spoken out on them. And we don't expect everyone to read "Letter From a Birmingham Jail," either, in order to honor Dr. King's legacy. We just ask that your celebratory remembrances aren't anywhere near as tacky as the following flyers, all uniquely bad in their own way.
