Tragedy doesn’t explain itself when it arrives. It lays waste to your sense of normalcy, alters your understanding of right and wrong, and leaves you with little to hold onto beside questions. The late 22-year-old Alabama rapper Doe B. knew tragedy all too well, and shared sentiments now expressed by the friends and family he left behind on the posthumous track “Why.” Featuring his Grand Hustle big homie, T.I., Doe lamented the deaths of close friends, while eerily acknowledging that there were people out to get him. His fears, unfortunately, proved to be true.
Tip, having seen at least two close friends and a child pass away since he’s reached fame, sounds palpably exhausted. His voice is one of a man who’s run out of tears, and chooses to mourn the dearly departed by not letting the pain break him. Gone but not forgotten, R.I.P. Doe B.
