While the rap blogosphere impatiently waits for Oxymoron, another hoarse-voiced Los Angeles emcee preps himself for a big and productive 2014.
Brainfeeder’s Azizi Gibson dropped “The Statement,” produced by MILLZ, and a statement he makes. Gibson zig-zags between a sing-song flow and a boisterous squawk throughout the track, as MILLZ’s soulful beat unfurls behind him. The song will feature on Gibson’s upcoming Backwards Books EP, a project that includes not only Brainfeeder head honcho Flying Lotus, but also Clams Casino, Jeremiah Jae and Jonathan Lowell. And if it sounds at all like “The Statement,” that same blogosphere might have another release date to circle in its collective calendar.
Also included below in the Flying Lotus-produced number “Libras Don’t Die,” which released a few weeks ago.
