Big Sean Takes Fans On The ‘Road To Hall Of Fame’ In New Documentary

For a mostly inoffensive and rather likeable guy, Big Sean seems to catch a lot of flak. Some of it probably has something to do the perception that he’s capable of much more than what he’s managed to put to record to date. Personally, I can’t say I didn’t enjoy the breezy pop-soul of his debut album, Finally Famous. Numbers don’t lie though, and the returns for his surprisingly listless sophomore album, Hall of Fame, have been less than stellar.

Offering a glimpse into the journey behind the album, director Zeno Jones’ short documentary chronicles the recording of Hall of Fame – with extensive behind-the-scenes footage of studio sessions with J. Cole, Common, No I.D., and a host of other notable collaborators. Sadly, there’s little exposition about the hilarious kid’s vocal sample on “MILF.” As with his studio albums, there’s a calculated self-seriousness at play here, and it continues to be the biggest difference from his more warmly-received mixtape work.
