During the past 15 years, not many roles have ascended into the ranks of immortality quite like “Jesus Shuttlesworth.” This isn’t to say Ray was a better actor than shooter. He wasn’t.

In the decade and a half years since its release, 1998′s He Got Game has gone on to become one of the staple sports films of all-time for its homage to the game (and the perils of it), but more so for the natural chemistry Denzel Washington and Ray Allen exhibited. Spike found a way to harness the ugly truths many African American fathers have with their sons when prison, absence, anger and lack of communication plant seeds of deep disdain. Yet, Game also showcased the product of what happens when those same barriers are stripped down (as well as Rosario Dawson and some dope sneakers throughout).

On a Saturday not exactly presenting the finest slate of college football games, grab a brew, kick back and take in a film still resonating to this very day. Because, think about it, how many times over the years have you watched Ray play ball and refer to him as Jesus Shuttlesworth only to have the people around you do the exact same?

Oh, and for those still doubting, TSS has been major for awhile now. Watch for Gotty’s brief cameo at 4:30.
