Watch The Terrifying But Brilliant Trailer For ‘Gravity’

With the proliferation of “founded footage” and “based on a true story” horror films (which are a greatly appreciated reprieve from the torture porn era), last year’s The Cabin in the Woods by Joss Whedon and Drew Goodard was a welcome deviation from the norm. The film’s witty satirical take on all forms of horror film tropes and conventions elevated what I expected from big studio American “scary” movies.

Sadly, it would be awhile before I found anything as engaging in the horror genre again. That changed when I saw the first trailer for Alfonso Curano’s (Children of Men) Gravity.

Based on a story written by Cuaron and his son, Gravity stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as two astronauts stranded in space with no one to rely on but each other. The story might sound simple enough, but after viewing the trailer you get this sense that Cuaron is really about to mess with your head.

Playing between the dualism of grandeur and intimacy, the film seems to be the type of thriller that gnaws at the fundamental fears of humanity, while also amazing us with spectacular visuals. Cuaron is known for his editing expertise, so we can only guess at how stressed our hearts will be by the end of the film.

Check below for the new extended trailer and get excited about being lost in space this October 4th.
