Roll Up: D.C. Just Recorded Its First Legal Weed Transaction In Over 75 Years

By J. Tinsley / 07.30.13

This legendary individual is Alonzo, a 51-year-old, HIV-positive young man who waltzed out of a North Capitol Street row house with a half ounce of Chocolate City-grown, high-grade (i.e. “loud”) marijuana. He couldn’t have sounded like a prouder man if he had just watched the birth of his first child afterwards, too.

“It’s a beautiful natural product that is from rain, sun and soil,” Alonzo said, wearing a dark T-shirt with a green logo of a cannabis leaf over a medical cross. “Mother Nature doesn’t make mistakes.”

Alonzo agreed to share his experiences navigating the District’s medical marijuana system on the condition that he be identified only by his middle name, concerned that public knowledge of his medical marijuana use could prove sensitive at work. [WashPo]

Mike DeBonis of the Washington Post presents a detailed-account of the fight to legalize the country’s most controversial plant since 1998 in D.C., using the aforementioned Alonzo as a personal perspective. Currently, Capital City Care is the only open dispensary in the nation’s capital, but there are two more planned to open in the coming months. And what exactly did Alonzo purchase, you ask? Just a wicked combination of Blue Dream, Jack Herer and Master Kush to be consumed with a Magic Flight Vaporizer. Like a boss!

Moving forward, “Mother Nature doesn’t make mistakes” could very well become the new battle cry to legalize Mary Jane nationwide. Just make sure Alonzo is properly compensated when/if it does. We already know how he’ll accept payments.
