Top Dawg’s been teasing us with little hints of OxyMoron. Pictures from studio sessions, speculation on the release date, and one gnarly, banging single in “Yay Yay” are all we’ve had to cling on to up until today. But now, with “Collard Greens,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, and presumably a huge marketing push on the verge, the album is probably wrapped up or tiptoeing the finish line.
On a first listen, the record sounds completely out of left field. The TDE duo is clearly experimenting with some new flavors. There are bits of vocal distortion, similar to the way GKMC was molded and Kendrick drops a verse, styled like the one he did on “Blessed.” And as with that song, this one will probably grow and become a fan favorite over the coming weeks.
Hopefully OxyMoron will wind up being the soundtrack to this summer. Listen below before purchasing on iTunes.
