Danny Brown’s flows and delivery are built for oddball beats not meant for most MCs. This distinction invites his voice to a gang of remixes Some get it right while many look to capitalize on the Detroit MC’s e-fame. Lost Twin’s take on Grown Up lies in the class of producers who do right by Brown’s acapella.

The UK producer’s remix employs an 8-bit bass line with a collection of clicks, bleeps and who knows what else. There’s nothing wrong with a little mystery behind the sounds since they build on the track’s eery vibe. Also the songs kicks give it a dope bounce which sets it apart from the source material’s cheerful tone. Sinister sounds dip the song in irony as Danny recalls his childhood but there’s just enough of the feeling without being overbearing.

Lost Twin’s record may be an acquired taste since it abandons the original’s accessible sound. Then again re-imagining a song is kind of the point of a remix, isn’t it? The key point is one could see Danny pen some original rhymes to this without sounding out of place. Plays don’t lie, though. Give it a whirl and see if it’s a right fit.
