After doling out several singles, those pushed to online outlets and tipped to dancers, Brian Ennals finally releases his album Candy Cigarettes. Raw honesty and wicked humor fuel the album, as the Severn, MD native eschews the impenetrable shield of infallibility that cloaks many artists, and lets his real personality and foibles shine through.
On “Norma’s” Ennals gets a little more honest with a stripper from the famed Baltimore establishment than he likely would if he were sober (“she so bad, at this point, I don’t care how many dudes she f*cked/and she so bad, at this point, I don’t care how many d*cks she sucked.”). That same lack of filter is evident on “Newport Music” where all of the thoughts from the deep recesses of his psyche are exhaled right along with the mentholated smoke. “Brian vs. BSG” feat BigSpitGame is another standout, as the duo indulge in a bit of lyrical exercise over energetic production.
At only twelve tracks, Candy Cigarettes is a quick, but enjoyable listen. Brian Ennals is an artist who is clearly giving you his own perspective, and not a watered down version of something he heard on the radio. His relatable, if sometimes twisted, take on life is refreshing, and worth a listen. Stream and download the project below.
