David D still doesn’t know who the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted last night and S. Cadet went into grumpy-cat mode when Adrian Woj… something announced Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce will now be Brooklyn Nets.
So while everyone was quipping on social media, we lost track of the night’s true news: ASCAP named Tauheed “2 Chainz” Epps their “Songwriter Of The Year” at their 26th Annual Rhythm And Soul Awards ceremony. Noah “40″ Shebib was also announced as a songwriter of the year, but really: all that matters is that the artist formerly known as Tity Boi has an award for songwriting.

Before panties bunch, it should be noted that the society awarded the songwriter distinction based upon which songs were played most last year. That grouping includes several tracks Epps worked on, including “Mercy,” “Beez In Tha Trap,” “Bandz A Make Her Dance” and “No Lie.” Epps was everywhere last year, so yes, he pretty much won 2012. And god dammit, those songs were catchy as hell.
2 Chainz, America’s Poet Laureate and a recipient of the MacArthur Genius Grant, is also now a recognized songwriting savant. And your life still sucks, even on Twitter.
