You can always tell it’s early May in New York City. The semen-smelling trees have bloomed, it becomes so nice so quickly that the tourists in Times Square actually seem less insufferable and, of course, college-aged interns* and Europeans on month-long vacations** start packing bars, douching up even the most subdued spots by spraying bottles and just being complete fartheads.
We’ll give Vampire Weekend’s latest leak for “Ya Hey” a pass for its champagne spraying off Manhattan roofs and sh*t, because these guys are New Yorkers through and through. It’s another lyric video, filled with lead singer Ezra Koenig’s food-for-thought prose, and it’s all brought together by the song’s stomp-happy rhythm and gibberish chorus. And, as noted earlier, there’s lots of champagne spraying.
Vampire Weekend’s third album, Modern Vampires of the City, releases May 13 via XL Recordings. Don’t be a farthead–pick it up.
