Guilt-Free Listening: ‘Adrian Younge Presents The Delfonics’ Album Stream

By Trackstar The DJ / 03.06.13

The Delfonics are putting out an all new album next week. Yes, the real Delfonics (when I told my father about this album, his response was “Not the real Delfonics–they’re from the SIXTIES, Gabe”). Forty-seven years after recording their first song, lead singer and founder William Hart got back into the studio – at eighty-plus years of age, no less – with Adrian Younge and created thirteen new songs.

Analog recording and instrumentation maintains a classic 1968 feel throughout the album, and Hart’s legendary falsetto still comes across as strong and clear as ever. Combining the dusty soul of The Delfonics era with the rugged ’90s Hip-Hop sound, Younge’s production on the project builds on the sound of 2011′s Something About April and suggests that next month’s collaborative album with Ghostface Killah, 12 Reasons to Die – which Adrian produced entirely – should live up to the Tony Starks standard.

Until then, though, NPR’s First Listen has been so kind as to offer Adrian Younge Presents The Delfonics for your streaming pleasure.
