Andrew Wiggins Named Naismith Player Of The Year

By J. Tinsley / 02.26.13

As noted years ago, Canada stays winning. There’s the awesome healthcare. There’s the extremely low crime rate. There’s the Toronto Blue Jays who are expected to plunge deep into the playoffs this fall. There’s Drake and his Grammy. There’s Justin Bieber and his weed. There’s our very own Samir. And, as of yesterday, Canada touts Andrew Wiggins, the 2013 Naismith Trophy recipient.

The honor is given every year to the best high school player in the country. To date this season, Wiggins is leaving no stat column unchecked with his 23.6 points, 11.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 3.4 steals and 2.1 blocks per game averages at Huntington Prep in West Virginia.

Wiggins’ celebrity has been increased by the bucket and his latest achievement even won the praise of the freakin’ Prime Minister of Canada, Stephen Harper. For now, aside from announcing where he’ll be spending the next two semesters of his life, April 3 will serve as Drew’s introduction to America on the grand stage. That’s when the McDonald’s All American Game will take place at the United Center in Chicago where his East squad will square off against the West led by the Harrison twins and Jabari Parker.
