Once upon a time not long ago, I drafted up an idea of kicks I wanted to see Nike and others bring back just to satisfy my personal wants. Not that they would, but there were certain joints I just need to make my life complete* and they never pop up on eBay or through individual sellers. At the top of the list was the Huarache Light**.
When they first dropped in ’93, only two colors dropped, one for men and another for women. My girl cousin had the men’s colorway and they looked so sweet that I was always envious of them. So when the model first retroed in 2002, I was all over’em. Copped two pair and my thirst was quenched.
But only for a moment.
My foot grew from the size 12 I’d been wearing since the early ’90s to the size 13 I wear today. I tried to wear’em minus an insole but I always hated doing that. Thus, my two pairs became obsolete and finding a 13 in any Huarache Light has always been more or less a waiting game filled with nothingness.
Until now, when Nike’s decided to bring these joints back with an updated Free sole. The official colorway is listed as Black/Team Orange-Concord-Neo Turquoise but anybody who’s interested enough to remember these will most likely refer to them as the “Ultramarines.” All I’m waiting on now is the black and brown joints to pop up for sale and I’m good.
Available now on NDC and any shop classy enough to know a good shoe when they see it.
* – That’s until the next “I gotta have it” shoe comes along. This shit never really stops.
