Question Of The Day: What Do Rick Ross’ First Week Sales Numbers Mean?

By Gotty™ / 08.09.12

Officer Ricky scored another one with God Forgives, I Don’t topping the SoundScan charts during its first week of sales. GFID sold 218k – the MMG MC’s highest first week ever – and gave him a total of four number one albums. While he’s never been platinum, Ross has proven himself to be a consistent chart performer, seeing the top more than Lil Wayne (3 times) but far behind Jay-Z (a remarkable 12). Does his Soundscan success get his name tossed in alongside Weezy, Drake, Jay and Kanye as one of the game’s current greats? Or, is he just another act who happens to sell well in stores but may never reach widespread critical acclaim and full fan acceptance?
