Troy Ave. Feat. Fabolous – “Merlot Pt Deux”

By Greg Whitt / 06.07.12

Troy Ave. finally dropped the most-anticipated track (at least for me) off the third installment of his Bricks In My Backpack series, the “Merlot” remix with fellow Brooklynite, Fabolous. Troy took the “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” route, so there are only the slightest tweaks to the opening verse and almost none to the original’s glorious beat. The heavenly wail of the vocal sample is still prominent, the jazzy drum programming still skitters about without losing the pocket, and the bass remains the smoothed out anchor to Harry Powder’s gritty street magic. Loso proves himself the perfect addition to this laid back tribute to giving a young lady a choice between the good life and the front door.

Pour up something vintage to this one, and let it breathe.
