This past week was a scorcher in NYC, but Alife helped remedy the heat with back-to-back concerts in the courtyard. MMG was in the building Tuesday, performing the better part of Self Made 2, and Chief Keef continued his first NYC visit with a quick set on Wednesday evening. French Montana also performed following the rookie’s set, before the cops invited themselves in and everybody else out before A$AP Mob could go on.
Open bars are a writer’s oasis, and there was plenty of booze both nights to keep the party hopping (courtesy of Ciroc and Pepsi). One lady bumped into me, her hands filled with four vodka-somethings, and said, “Sorry, trying to carry too many drinks.” I replied, “Me too, but I use my stomach.” Eh, I thought it was clever.
Both nights were a little cozy: the small venue nearly bursting at the seams with people who kept the energy appropriately feverish. Partygoers responded most heartily for Meek Mill and Wale’s “Acting Up” and the posse cut “Stay Schemin’” on Tuesday night (the latter was reprised by a lone French on Wednesday) and -shocker- the Keefster’s “Don’t Like” on Wednesday, though there was one particular Asian man in attendance who looked to be in his 50′s, who seemed very confused and very frightened at the music being performed by Chief Keef.
Maybe he called the cops.
