Carly Rae Jepsen Brings Out the Youth In Jimmy Fallon & The Roots

By Samir S. / 06.11.12

From Odd Future’s memorable television debut to the “History of Rap” skits with Justin Timberlake to President Obama “Slow Jamming The News,” one of the main strengths of Late Night With Jimmy Fallon has always been the musical segments (typically bolstered by the Legendary Roots Crew). Though Fallon and The Roots are typically on their toes waiting to catch intriguing music phenomena before they go stale, their latest foray is a little more obvious, so they’ve had to flip the script.

Hooking up with Carly Rae Jepsen for a backstage performance of her ubiquitous song of the summer “Call Me Maybe,” Jimmy and co. put away the fancy stuff and grab some “classroom instruments” for the quirky rendition. Kazoos and xylophones maybe, but I’m guessing you won’t find ?uestlove’s afro pick in too many elementary school music rooms.
