G-Dep Sentenced To Minimum 15 Years In Murder Case

By Gotty™ / 05.08.12

The legal drama of G-Dep came to an end today after a long, two-year process that began when he unknowingly confessed to a cold-case murder. The 37-year-old artist, born Trevell Coleman, got the minimum sentence Tuesday for his April murder conviction: 15 years to life. The judge in the case, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus, granted G-Dep the lowest possible time allowed by NY law, citing that “The circumstance of your being before the court now suggests to me a maturity and decency that wouldn’t have been evident at the time.”

For a juror’s perspective of Dep’s trial, read an account by Jim Nelson, GQ’s editor-in-chief, in which he describes the court proceedings in depth and talks about why the jury came to a guilty verdict.
