Nas – “The Don” (Prod. By Salaam Remi, Da Internz & Heavy D.)

By MZ / 03.16.12

It couldn’t have been more than two or three days ago while leaving the gym that I overheard someone bragging about having eight new Nas songs. I was in a rush to get to work so I casually brushed it off because I was more interested in finding some food than quizzing a stranger about some new tunes from Nas. But seeing how Nas’ latest track, “The Don,” just surfaced, I’m really hoping dude wasn’t spinning ducktales. Flex got the drop on this one, debuting it on his Hot 97 show, thankfully keeping the bombs and drops to a minimum.

Salaam Remi, on the other hand, received a heavenly assist from Heavy D and Nas does the damn thing while reaffirming his don status. I love how the uptempo urgency in his lyrics and delivery carried over from “Nasty.” It’s always a good thing when Nasir feels like he has something to prove. My only hope now is that dude was telling truth and we get Life Is Good sooner rather than later.
