Apparently Saturday Night Live Was Pretty Good Last Night

By J. Tinsley / 02.19.12

On most weekends, the most I hear about Saturday Night Live is through Twitter. I’m usually out somewhere likely preparing to embark upon a bad decision, but last night’s episode was apparently one for the record books. Always aware of the most pressing issues in pop culture, hearing SNL had a Jeremy Lin skit was more expected than it was surprising. And according to our good brother Ed (and yours truly), they nailed it. Given some of the negative, racially charged attacks on Lin since his rise to present day stardom, the skit does an amazing job and correlating the similarities and extreme differences between African American and Asian stereotypes.

Escaping Linsanity for a moment, SNL catches us up on the life and times of the world’s most famous newborn, Blue Ivy Carter (see what I did there?). Papa Hov and Mama B invite Prince, LL Cool J, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift over to see their little bundle of joy. To close things out Justin Timberlake arrives as Bon Iver to perform “Holocene.” The entire clip produces two results: one, it proves to be damn funny with each actor/actress doing wonderful jobs (the Nicki clone may have been the funniest of them all), and two, you’ll enjoy Timberlake’s part, but get pissed once you realize he may never drop another album.

Bonus: TSS favorites Sleigh Bells were the musical guests on hand last night to perform “Comeback Kid” and “End Of The Line” found on their Reign Of Terror LP.
