In this week’s edition of “Bad Ideas With NBC,” The Office’s Dwight Schrute is getting his own series. The studio feels confident enough in Rain Wilson’s quirky character to give the green light to a spin-off, centered entirely around Schrute and the farm he operates. If the schedule goes according to plan, the series will begin airing in mid-2013.
Seriously, is anybody psyched about this? Spin-offs are a slap in the face by television execs, sending a message along the lines of: “we’re too lazy to come up with new, original content, but we’re banking on the fact that you’re stupid enough to consume the same product twice.” Rarely, if ever, do off-shoots manage to capture what made the original series successful. I’ll be thoroughly shocked if Dwight! (or whatever they call it) lasts longer than a season. Remember, this is a character who is very much dependent on other members of the show to be funny. It’s going to take some incredibly inspired writing for this project to be deemed a success in the eyes of Office fans.

Sigh
It might not happen. They’re hedging their bets because several of the main cast haven’t renewed their contracts yet for the 2013 season.
Boo. Halpert over everything
Enh, Jim got boring once him and Pam started dating. And after they got married, sheesh, on some days it’s been downright unwatchable.
Yerp lol. Was just thinking that… them bringing their baby everywhere isn’t funny. But, to the show’s credit, I’m glad they got married instead of flirting around for nine seasons.
I haven’t watched The Office since the Giants won the Super Bowl. Haven’t lost a wink of sleep over it yet
i could never bring myself to watch the office, community or nuttin!
CHeck out ‘Parks & Rec’ man… only one of those nuttin shows that has me consistently crackin up.
Terrible idea. Dwight (or Rainn Wilson) will always be a sub character in everything he does.
Ever seen Super?
I hear Super is more or less a Kick-Ass clone. Is this true?
Kind of a Kick-Ass clone, but Kick-Ass was a comic. Super is worth watching. Not really trying to be funny like Kick-Ass, but more really like if some dude for real did try to be a hero
It’s not a Kick-Ass clone at all. The only thing they have in common is that they’re both about regular people trying to be superheroes. In Kick-Ass they still may as well be superheroes (Reinforced skeleton, martial arts abilities, jetpacks) where Super is about a nutjob with a wrench.
I may be in the minority, but ive always found Dwight and his cousin Mose to be hilarious in their segments together… Rainn Wilson is a competent actor, so if done right, this could be a watchable show
They are funny as hell in the few moments they are shown, but I wouldn’t wanna watch an entire series revolving around that dynamic.
This smacks of lazy opportunism, you can almost see the dollar signs in the TV execs eyes.
The UK Office only ran for two seasons, and they tied it all up with a Christmas special. That’s how you do a TV show with a bit of style. Go out on a high note and don’t ruin your legacy.
like @raj said the office got lame when pam and jim got married
The show hasn’t been funny in some time, and I seriously doubt this will pick up and take off.If anything, this would be good as some type of 8 minute online digital short series or something, but not a whole 22 minutes.
Also, NBC STOP WITH THIS SHIT. QUIT MAKING CRAP SHOWS. FOCUS ON COMMUNITY.
That is all.
Spin-offs are definitely lazy, but they’ve worked for networks before (ie. Good Times). I think what’s worked in the past is taking a likable character that had very little screen time or was just a recurring role player and developing a brand new story for them. In Dwight’s case, we already know all about him & his schtick is kind of played out. There’s nothing new to do with him. Now if Creed were to get a spin-off…I’d watch that.
creed always steals scenes lmao
I’m the only guy who still finds the Office funny huh…jokes on me I guess lol.
