When it comes to 2012 and “debut” albums, two of the names topping my list are Big K.R.I.T. and Frank Ocean. The latter sat down with with BBC News as apart of their Sound of 2012 list to discuss a wide array of subjects, one of them revolving around his forthcoming LP. While topics of working with Beyonce, his own hobbies and the significance of Odd Future are tossed around, the enigmatic vocalist had this to say about the project the entire industry (and fan base) seems to have vested interest in.
“It succinctly defines me as an artist for where I am right now and that was the aim, just to make something that represents where you are at that time,” said Ocean. “It’s about the stories. If I write 14 stories that I love, then the next step is to get the environment of music around it to best envelop the story and all kinds of sonic goodness—sonic goodies.”
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. It’s been awhile since a mainstream R&B album – if that’s what this even is – has shaken things up and forced everyone to go back home and reevaluate the way they make music, a la Comin’ From Where I’m From in 2003 and Confessions in 2004. One thing’s for damn sure however. Frank’s got the talent to drop something truly special. Let’s just hope the follow through is as enticing as that quote is.

Those are two of my most anticipated “debuts” as well. I’m also looking forward to Kendrick and Pusha if those count.
cant wait
Can you (or ya’ll) say,”The Weeknd”… ???
House of Balloons was his best work. Thursday and Echoes of Silence pale in comparison to that.
However he’ll always have a check as Drakes ghost writer singer.
The Weeknd has already released three albums, of varying quality. He also already has access to any resources or people he would possibly want to work with. I don’t think his debut would be anything substantially different, and if it was, it would be by his choice not the fact that it is his debut.
