West Coast music fans, rejoice. Your favorite Left Coast festival, Coachella, just released the 2012 line-up for its newly expanded two-weekend festival this April. The fest, which will cover the weekends of April 13-15 and April 20-22, features headlining acts The Black Keys, Radiohead and tandem sets from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. However, fans of all genres have acts to get excited about, as performers as diverse as A$AP Rocky, St. Vincent, The Black Lips and The Weeknd will be present in Indio.
Yet, it was one of the festival’s most unrecognizable acts that might’ve also been its biggest coup. After an 11-year hiatus, El Paso, Texas, thrash-rock pioneers, At the Drive-In, will reunite to play both weekends. Although not headlining, the festival marks the first time since the band called it quits in 2001 that all five former members will play together.
At the Drive-In won’t be most fans’ first choice to watch nor will they elicit more than a head-scratching “huh?” However, for fans of thrash rock and modern punk music, the reunion is exciting if not unexpected–especially when one considers the bands formed from ATDI’s break-up, The Mars Volta and Sparta, went completely separate musical paths. But for someone eager to enjoy a manic live performance and plenty of instrument distortion, ATDI’s Sunday performances should warrant serious consideration.

Damn, how I wish I could actually attend this. So many different sounds, so many different tastes. I may have about 60- 70% of these artists in my iTunes lol
Oh and including One Armed Scissor? GREAT choice
ryan J does it again…how do you know exactly what i like?
although im more of a tmv dude i played the shit outta vaya fromm atdi, great record
props to tss for this post
, Acrobatic Tenement, is still one of my favorite albums of all time, regardless of genre. That LP is unbelievably raw. It’s like the punk rock equivalent of The Black Keys’ The Big Come Up..Man. it is Good. I am beautiful woman and int;erracial romance is my dream.so I joined –Blackw hiteP lanet.C0Mit’s a co;mmunity to co;nnect with beautiful and nice people! You wanna get laid tonight? Maybe you wanna check it out.for ATDI vaya was the only one i really found accessible, but i tried in casino out, and relationship of command but could only really pick at some tracks.
I liked TMV’s first two records, with De-Loused In the Commatorium remaining a listen every once in awhile. But I spent the majority of my middle and high school years listening to ATDI. Shit, I could write pages on ‘em, but I was happy to see that Coachella got them to come back together.
For the record, ATDI’s first album, Acrobatic Tenement, is still one of my favorite albums of all time, regardless of genre. That LP is unbelievably raw. It’s like the punk rock equivalent of The Black Keys’ The Big Come Up.
damn. very good lineup. but i don’t have the funds for this. the money for drugs alone..i can’t even.
De-loused is my fav as well but i went through phases with each one.
As, for ATDI vaya was the only one i really found accessible, but i tried in casino out, and relationship of command but could only really pick at some tracks.
I guess i gotta see what Acrobatic Tenement has to offer though.
The weakest lineup ive ever seen for this.
Is that “Wolf Gang” Odd Future? no dummy smacks
kendrick lamar’s name looking mighty small, no???
my exact thought.
Damn, a little bit surprised at the number of eurodance-trash acts on there, didn’t know these were so big in the US (Avicci, Swedish House Maffia, fakkin Guetta,…).
Avicii is huge in the US right now. That Levels song just killed it.
thundercat has the best album of the year.
at the drive-in…these guys and the spawns of their break up all produced awesome music.
