Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Chris Paul has been traded to Los Angeles. The obnoxious, conspiracy-inspiring saga of Chris Paul appears to be reaching a close, as the Los Angeles Clippers reportedly have reached an agreement for Paul and a couple of second-rounders in exchange for sending Eric Gordon, Chris Kamen, Al-Forouq Aminu and Minnesota’s first-round pick in 2012 to the Big Easy*.
The trade looks slightly different than a trade proposed over the weekend, one that included young Clippers point guard Eric Bledsoe getting thrown into the pot. Still, Bledsoe or no Bledsoe, you have to tip your hat to the Hornets on this one. Chris Kamen is more than serviceable, Al-Forouq Aminu has the athletic skills to be a two-way star (seriously) and Eric Gordon is already the best young shooting guard in the league. Toss is that first-rounder, which, if the T’Wolves play like the T’Wolves, could be a top five pick in a deep draft, and the Hornets came away with a consolation prize that has to be considered better than what Denver got for Carmelo Anthony.
As the Hornets look to the future, Clippers fans can rest assured that a Blake Griffin-Chris Paul connection will be as relevant as any one-two punch the league currently has to offer. Of course, there’s a “but.” Concerns about Paul’s knee and his desire to remain under Donald Sterling’s control are going to follow him from here on out. As it stands, the Clippers will be sending out a starting five of Paul, Randy Foye (unless they can nab Jamal Crawford), Caron Butler, Griffin and DeAndre Jordan (if they resign him, which they pretty much have to). Had the trade fell through, they would have sported a lineup of Chauncy Billups, Gordon, Butler, Griffin and DeAndre Jordan. Both look pretty damn good on paper. We’ll have to wait for the smoke to clear and actual basketball games to be played before we hand out grades on this one.
* – This whole thing could go to shit with one blink of Stern’s eye.

clippers were already that team to watch (outside OKC), gonna be exciting to see this squad out there! alley-oop after alley-oop
Chris Paul is the best guard in the league…when his knees are in working condition.
LOL Lakers, U Mad? Haha they lost Odom because they tried to get CP3.
This is ok because its not the Lakers right?
Say what you want about Stern, but this is a great fucking deal for the Hornets. Aminu is young. Gordon is young. Kaman is 29, serviceable AND off the books this summer. Plus, you add in Minnesota’s 1st round pick. Trevor Ariza is still pretty good. They signed Marco Bellineli today as well. This is how you make the Hornets a property that is worth buying. Which I’m sure will happen now pre-draft.
Now selfishly, I’m more exicted about the Cavs future. By amnesty releasing Baron Davis, not having to pay his 2yrs/18M, they save 8M. Plus, this is Antawn Jamison’s last year. I expect them to have another lottery pick, and the Cavs will be approx. 20M under the cap this coming summer. Should be fun. Should be fun all around the league tho.
There is no point of having Paul AND Billups AND Bledsoe on the same team because none of them can play the 2-guard and Bledsoe’s growth doesn’t need to be stunted by having two starting point guards on the same team above him.
If possible, they should have dealt Bledsoe and/or Billups for Paul, not Gordon.
This is ok because its not the Lakers right?

Purrty much. Still Lakers all day tho.
shoulda been billups instead of eric gordon…oh well, hopefully everybody stays fit and we got some good ass games to look foward too
Now this is a good trade
Whaaaaat! I think the only loss for the Clippers in this trade is that they had to get rid of Gordon. Other than that it was pretty much worth it. They’re about to sell hella tickets, jerseys, & get more tv time. I don’t see them coming outta the west, though. This might be the year OKC takes it all the way. Anybody see how Perkins slimmed down?
I don’t think he’ll re-sign with the Clippers as a free agent, either.
This is ok because its not the Lakers right?

Eh…I thought N.O. got a better deal with the Lakers trade. Its a good deal either way tho. But *bleep* the crazy oop’s goin on in L.A…we stole Lamar for nothing to get him to Dallas.
Ha! “Pardon me, I had to laugh at that”
@gotty deron williams > chris paul
@ Willie P
This is the better deal. The Laker deal would’ve made them a lil bit better now, but would also put a shitload of money on their books. This deal makes them younger with financial flexibility.
@The Kid Frankie
The reason this deal was made was because Paul assured them he would opt in next season. Giving the Clippers at least 2 years with him, and they will still have fliexibilty financially to add more pieces. I’ve already heard LA radio tonight saying this could be the beginning of the shift in LA. Dodgers to Angels. Lakers to Clippers. Granted it would take a hell of alot for the Lakers to not be the most popular team, but Jim Buss seems to be doing things that constantly makes Kobe unhappy. Things may get ugly sooner or later.
@Chris Cool Chris Paul > Deron Williams in the same way CP3′s Hornets were > than the Nets
Losing Gordon is terrible for the Clippers though. With Brandon Roy’s retirement, look for EG to sneak in to the All-Star game.
I’d rather not see Eric Gordon go but his departure was inevitable. Paul, Gordon, Tuff Juice, Blake and Jordan would’ve been a fun lineup to watch.
man i love this…but being a b ball fan here in la we would go to clipper games cuz for 30 bones some games you could sit like 12 rows back from the court and just enjoy the game…decent laker tix have to damn near be a special occasion…$90 for nosebleeds…..saw blake vs kevin love last year at a spur of the moment after work just cuz i thought it had the potential to be legendary..even treated a co worker, just told him to make sure i dont get thirsty…hell ive been given tickets for the free…even though im a laker fan, the games were funner. more true fans and less people out just to be seen. looks like those day are over………… who am i kidding i get paid friday and looking for tickets before work, how can i resist lobfest 2011…no longer our jv squad…lakers for life or should i just be rep staples center and just make it easy
forgot about billups….3 staring pgs and no true 2 and no back up at the 4…bench is gonna lose games..have a feeling mo williams might end up a laker
@c dub – just be thankful you can go to games lol. i’m from the UK so going to a game would cost a flight and hotel on top of the ticket.
@ James Winfield – I would gladly hook you up with a spot to sleep and tixs to the Knicks in trade for the same to an Arsenal match in the league.
Your on your own for airfare…lol
C dub is right… I got clips tickets for $10 once, and it used to be so empty that you could just take any old seat. If the ticketholder came, you just moved over one and made a friend. But hell, I’ll take more expensive tickets for the possibility of playoff runs…
Yeah the clips really don’t have a bench we will c
@james its cheaper for me to fly to another city to see the lakers than it is to watch them in their own back yard
