Remember Rayon McIntosh, the McDonald’s worker who beat two female customers senseless with a metal pole because they hopped over the counter, yelled obscenities and ran after him? A grand jury presided over the case for nearly two weeks before coming to the decision to drop all charges.
“No 31-year-old wants to work at McDonald’s making $7.25 an hour but he did it,” said McInTosh’s mother, Maureen Lucas, of her son whose sole intention was to make sure he was apart of his 11-year-old daughter’s life following a decade long prison sentence for manslaughter. A stand up decision indeed, which can have a person second guessing themselves on a daily basis, but here’s a fact about about the case I was previously unfamiliar with. The entire reason Denise Darbeau and Rachel Edwards jumped the counter was because they attempted to pay their meal with a $50 bill. Once Rayon held it up to the light to check the authenticity – which I’m pretty sure is corporate policy – that’s where the now infamous YouTube video picks up.
Interestingly enough, however, Darbeau and Edwards aren’t out of the woods yet. It’s bad enough one required surgery for a fractured skull and the other a broken arm, but a jury has yet to decide their fate as they face trespassing, menacing and disorderly conduct charges. A lot can happen in 27 days, but let’s go ahead and crown this 2011′s finest example of “When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong.”
